In a region facing increasingly complex and evolving crises, strengthening risk management is central to delivering impact, accountability, and trust.

Today in Kampala, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), in partnership with the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Uganda (RCO), convened a Risk Management Framework (RMF) Workshop for the Eastern and Southern Africa Humanitarian Pooled Fund (ESAHF).

The workshop brought together Government, UN agencies, NGOs, academia, the private sector, and other key partners to identify priority risks and agree on practical mitigation measures.

As one of OCHA’s Regional Humanitarian Pooled Funds, ESAHF plays a critical role in providing flexible, scalable financing to respond to urgent humanitarian needs across Eastern and Southern Africa -including Uganda.

The RMF is a vital tool to strengthen how risks are identified, assessed, and managed, ensuring that humanitarian assistance remains timely, coordinated, and effective for the communities that need it most.

Today marks the 32nd commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

The UN Resident Coordinator, Leonard Zulu, together with ambassadors, government representatives, and members of the community, gathered at the Ggolo Memorial Site in Mpigi District to honor the victims and reflect on this tragic chapter in history.

The Ggolo site is the final resting place for 4,771 victims and is one of three memorial sites in Uganda that together hold the remains of 10,983 Rwandans.

Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of preserving memory, standing in solidarity with survivors, and renewing our collective commitment to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.

Over the course of 100 days, more than one million men, women, and children were killed. Today, we remember them- and reaffirm our shared responsibility to uphold humanity, dignity, and peace.
