RENEWED UGANDA

Statement of Condemnation on State Violence Against Gen. Henry Tumukunde (Rukungiri Municipality) and Mr. Philip Tumukunde (Nakaseke).

We strongly and unequivocally condemn the ongoing state-sponsored violence, harassment, and intimidation directed at Gen. Henry Tumukunde and Mr. Philip Tumukunde. These acts are not only a blatant abuse of power but also a direct assault on the principles of justice, democracy, and human dignity.

The use of coercive force by state agencies against citizens who have chosen to engage in peaceful political activity is utterly unacceptable in any society that claims to uphold the rule of law. It is particularly disturbing when such violence is wielded against individuals who have served the nation with distinction, such as Gen. Tumukunde—a decorated officer and former security minister.

The targeting of Mr. Philip Tumukunde further reveals a disturbing pattern of collective punishment and political retribution, which must be called out for what it is: an attempt to silence dissent, dismantle opposition, and instil fear

We call on all democratic actors—both within Uganda and internationally—to take note of these violations and to hold those responsible to account. The rule of law must prevail over lawlessness. No government has the moral right to brutalize its own citizens under the guise of national interest.

Uganda can not move forward when the state chooses violence over dialogue and coercion over constitutionalism. We demand an immediate end to the persecution of Gen. Tumukunde, Mr. Philip Tumukunde, and all others who face political repression. The future of Uganda depends on our collective insistence on justice, accountability, and respect for fundamental human rights.
