The Effect of Prehospital Blood Transfusion on Patient Body Temperature from the Time of Emergency Medical Services Transfusion to Arrival at the Emergency Department - PubMed 04/11/2023

The first study to evaluate the effectiveness of a prehospital blood warmer in actual clinical use to prevent hypothermia from prehospital transfusions with cold stored blood is now published. The Quantum Blood and Fluid Warmer was used on all patients, with no statistically significant change in body temperature pre to post transfusion. Included two patients who received EIGHT UNITS EACH of cold stored blood products and both remained normothermic!

The Effect of Prehospital Blood Transfusion on Patient Body Temperature from the Time of Emergency Medical Services Transfusion to Arrival at the Emergency Department - PubMed Use of the Quantum prevents the previously identified risk of hypothermia with respect to unwarmed prehospital transfusions. The data is favorable in that body temperature did not decrease in critically ill patients receiving cold-stored blood warmed during administration with the Quantum.
