Friends of the Alameda Free Library The Friends of the Alameda Free Library work to increase public awareness of the Library and support the Library in developing services and facilities.

The Friends of the Alameda Free Library is a volunteer organization. The Library Friends group was founded in 1973 to increase public awareness of the Library as an essential part of the community and to support the Library in developing services and facilities. The Friends worked for years toward the goal of a new Main Library. That goal was realized in November 2006 when Alameda's new Library opened at the corner of Lincoln and Oak. The Friends of the Library continue to support and fund projects, equipment, and goals of the Library. The Friends sponsor events such as author and speaker visits and children's programs.
