šŸŒŽ International ShakeOut Day | October 15

Oregon is getting ready to shake things up—with a little practice! šŸ’™

The Great Oregon ShakeOut is a statewide earthquake drill that helps people practice what to do when the ground starts shaking.

šŸ“… Today, Thursday, October 15
ā° 10:15 a.m.
šŸ“ Wherever you are!

At 10:15 a.m., join people across Oregon in practicing three important steps:
ā¬‡ļø DROP to your hands and knees.
šŸ›”ļø COVER your head and neck and take shelter under a sturdy desk or table if possible.
āœ‹ HOLD ON until the shaking stops.

You can participate at home, at work, at school, or wherever you happen to be. Take this opportunity to review your emergency plan and check your supplies, too.

Preparedness is one way we can help build safer, more resilient communities—from the Cascades to the Coast.

Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills help people in homes, schools, and organizations worldwide improve preparedness and practice how to be safe during earthquakes. Register to participate in your state or country's drill at www.ShakeOut.org.

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction | October 13 šŸ’™

Resilience starts at home—and grows stronger when communities prepare together.

From earthquakes and wildfires to flooding and severe storms, disasters can affect our homes, families and communities in many ways.

Taking steps to prepare before an emergency happens can make a difference. Knowing local risks, having an emergency plan, keeping essential supplies on hand and checking in with neighbors are meaningful ways to build readiness.

Community Resiliency is one of United Way of Linn, Benton & Lincoln Counties’ focus areas. We recognize the importance of preparedness, strong community connections and working together to help our communities respond to challenges and recover from emergencies.

When individuals, families and communities prepare together, we can build greater resilience for the challenges ahead.

šŸ’™ When a workplace comes together, our whole community benefits.

This morning, we had the pleasure of joining our friends at ATI Materials for their United Way Campaign Advocate Training as they prepare to kick off another Workplace Campaign next week!

ATI is one of our top workplace campaign partner, and we love working alongside a team that demonstrates the power of coming together for a shared purpose.

We’re grateful to ATI’s campaign advocates, employees and leadership for their continued generosity and commitment to our region. We’re excited to see what this year’s campaign will accomplish!

Your workplace can make a difference, too. Connect with United Way of Linn, Benton & Lincoln Counties to learn more about Workplace Campaign giving.

October 12 | Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Today, we recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Indigenous Peoples’ Day also offers an opportunity to learn more about the people and histories that have shaped our communities and to recognize perspectives that have not always received the attention they deserve.

Columbus Day is also observed on this date, reflecting a longstanding part of the nation’s history and traditions.

As we reflect on our shared history, may we continue to listen, learn and build communities rooted in understanding, inclusivity and respect.

World Mental Health Day | October 10 šŸ’™

Mental health is health.

World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma and remind one another that mental health deserves the same care and attention as physical health.

It’s okay to not be okay.
It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to talk about what you’re going through.

A simple check-in, a listening ear or a reminder that someone is not alone can mean more than we realize.

Today, let’s make space for conversations about mental health, lead with compassion and remember that taking care of our mental well-being matters—not just today, but every day.

⭐ 9 TO 5 WITH DOLLY šŸ“š

It’s the 9th. It’s 5 p.m. And it’s time to talk books!

Reading to a child from birth helps build language, vocabulary and early literacy skills—and creates something just as important: a positive relationship with books and learning.

That’s why Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library sends a new, age-appropriate book to enrolled children every month from birth to age 5—at no cost to families.
Here in Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties, we’re proud to carry forward Dolly’s vision of helping children discover the joy of reading.

šŸ“š One book. One child. One month at a time.

Have a child under 5? Sign them up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and start building their home library today.
