This week, we’re encouraging Alexandria residents to rethink, repair and reuse by finding new ways to keep useful items out of the waste stream.

🔧 On October 24, check out the Alexandria Library’s Community Repair Event! Bring small appliances, electronics and furniture in need of repair, as well as watches that need new batteries.

🏡⚡ Energy Awareness Month: Homes Week | October 11–17

This week, we’re focusing on ways Alexandria residents can make their homes more energy efficient, comfortable and prepared for colder weather.

🔨 Join the FREE Home Weatherization Workshop with My Favorite Fixer on October 17 for hands-on experience with materials and tools that can help improve your home’s energy efficiency. Alexandria residents who participate will also receive a FREE energy efficiency kit to put their new skills into practice!

🌱 You can also learn about the Eco-City Homes program at Farmers’ Markets across Alexandria throughout the month. Sign up and receive a free energy efficiency kit while supplies last.

🍔☀️ Connecting with Our Community!

On September 1, members of the City of Alexandria Code Administration’s Property Maintenance team joined the Fairlington Presbyterian Church Community Cookout!

Our team enjoyed spending time with community members, answering questions, and sharing helpful information about Property Maintenance services and resources available through the City.

Community events like this give us a great opportunity to connect with residents outside of City offices, build relationships, and make sure our community knows where to turn when property maintenance concerns arise.

Thank you to Fairlington Presbyterian Church for welcoming us and providing a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community! 🏡💙

🏠 Connecting Alexandria Residents with Housing Resources

On August 31, members of the City of Alexandria Code Administration’s Property Maintenance team attended the Housing Conditions Clinic at William Ramsay Recreation Center.

The clinic provided tenants with an opportunity to receive legal advice from the Legal Aid Justice Center and connect directly with City resources to help address concerns related to their housing conditions.

Our Property Maintenance team was proud to be part of this collaborative effort, helping residents learn more about available resources and how the City can assist with property maintenance and housing condition concerns.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this valuable community resource possible!

🌟 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: LEIGHTON PROCTOR 🌟

Meet Leighton Proctor, Fire Protection Plans Examiner with the City of Alexandria Department of Code Administration!

Leighton has been with the City for a little over two years and says one of the things he enjoys most about his role is the opportunity for constant learning, and that dedication to learning is certainly paying off.

Leighton was nominated for his teamwork, willingness to go above and beyond, and dedication to expanding his knowledge of ICC codes. Most recently, he achieved an impressive professional milestone by earning his Master Code Professional Certification! 👏

When he’s not working or attending school, Leighton enjoys squeezing in a little time for video games. And here’s a fun fact: corduroy and velvet are definitely NOT his favorite textures! 😄

We Remember. We Honor. We Never Forget.

On September 11, we pause to remember the lives lost on 9/11 and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who served that day and in the years that followed.

We also remember the strength, compassion, and unity shown by communities across our nation in the face of unimaginable loss.

Today, the City of Alexandria’s Department of Code Administration joins our community in honoring those we lost, those who served, and the enduring spirit of those who came together to help one another.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Alexandria's National Night Out yesterday! 🎉

Our Property Maintenance team had a great time connecting with residents, answering questions about property maintenance, and sharing information about the resources available through Code Administration.

Events like National Night Out help strengthen relationships between neighbors, City staff, and public safety partners while building a safer, more connected community.
