This week the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office hosted another meaningful “Hugs of Hope” event providing incarcerated parents the opportunity to reconnect with their children in a safe, supportive, and family-centered environment. 💙

Events like these are about more than just a visit. They help strengthen healthy family connections, support emotional well-being, and remind both parents and children that those bonds still matter during incarceration. Maintaining positive relationships can play an important role in mental health, stability, and successful reentry after release.

It takes place between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day because we recognize how important family connection can be during this time of year. Through games, activities, and shared moments together, “Hugs of Hope” creates space for families to reconnect with dignity and compassion.

A special thank you to our partners at OAR of Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church for helping make the day extra special by providing thoughtful gifts for the children who attended.

At ACSO, we remain committed to supporting rehabilitation, healthy relationships, and stronger family connections because successful reentry starts with hope, support, and community.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of sharing the road responsibly.

In 2025, Virginia recorded 104 motorcycle-related fatalities.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to wear protective gear, use VDOT-approved helmets, and consider training programs like the Virginia Rider Training Program. Drivers should stay alert, double-check blind spots, and respect motorcyclists’ space on the road.

Safety is a shared responsibility - let’s work together to prevent crashes and save lives.
