We were honored to take part in the SHEEO Basic Needs Data Academy Convening in Louisville, Kentucky!

The gathering brought together teams from seven states to strengthen how data can be used to better understand and address college students’ basic needs. Through expert-led sessions and collaborative planning, participants explored data alignment, changing policy landscapes, meaningful storytelling and strategies for engaging partners.

Thank you to the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association and ECMC Foundation for creating this important space for collaboration, learning, and action.

We’re proud to celebrate new research from David Meyers, director of the Embark Georgia Center and EGRC member.

David serves as a co-author of “Hustling for Every Dime”: Resource Needs of Campus Support Program Practitioners Serving Students with Experience in Foster Care, an article recently published in the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal.

The study explores the training, staffing, funding, and institutional support campus professionals need to serve students with experience in foster care effectively.

Higher education can be one of the strongest protective factors against homelessness for young adults. Accessing and completing college, however, can be especially challenging for students navigating financial aid, rising costs, and limited campus support.

SchoolHouse Connection has created a helpful video highlighting practical tools that support FAFSA completion and help students persist through college. Resources include determination tools, screening checklists, sample statements, webinar recordings, FAFSA guidance, customizable presentations, and strategies for supporting students after enrollment.

✨ We are excited to celebrate the release of the special issue of the Sage Journal: “Transition-Age Youth in Foster Care: Higher Education Enrollment and Use of Supports.”

Transition-age youth in foster care face unique barriers to accessing higher education. New research found that youth who remain in extended foster care and experience greater placement stability are more likely to enroll in college and receive Education and Training Voucher (ETV) funding.
