FULL COVERAGE: Cheryl Howell Coe was convicted of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in the 2021 shooting death of her husband, Luther Coe, at their Tommy Lee Cook Road home.
A Coweta County jury returned the guilty verdict Monday afternoon after a retrial that followed a March mistrial.
The prosecution presented bodycam footage, text messages and testimony describing the couple’s troubled marriage, including disputes over an open relationship.
Witnesses included deputies who responded to the scene, Luther’s son Levi, and medical examiner Andrew Koopmeiners, who testified the fatal gunshot was fired at close range.
Coe took the stand, admitting she fired the shots but claiming she acted out of fear after years of escalating violence.
Defense attorney Thomas Mondelli argued self-defense, while prosecutors said Coe’s shifting stories undermined her credibility.
She was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
