Georgia is home to some truly spectacular waterfalls, and while some of them require deep treks into the woods, others can be found just a few steps from the car. These are three of our favorite waterfalls that can all be done with less than a mile of hiking!

Toccoa Falls is an astounding 186 feet tall, which makes it Georgia’s tallest free-falling waterfall. This impressive falls is truly best appreciated standing right below the base of the falls where you’ll be looking towards the sky to see the top. The waterfall is accessed via a very short gravel path from the college’s visitor center, where they do request a $2 visitor’s fee.

Helton Creek Falls is a gorgeous waterfall located within the national forest between Helen and Blairsville. You will hike just over a half mile round-trip for this one if you want to see both the upper and lower falls. We always love the drive to get here as well. Taking the scenic route over Richard B Russell highway, you’ll pass Hog Pen Gap which is one of our favorite roadside overlooks in the state. Mountain vistas and a waterfall in one short outing!

Minnehaha Falls holds a special place in our hearts. We’ve been to some astounding waterfalls all around the world, but if you ask our favorite, we almost always land back here. Something about the stair-step formation of these falls and the beautiful surroundings just make for such a tranquil setting. All within a half-mile hike from the parking area.

What are your favorite short-hikes in Georgia? We’re always looking for more on those days when we’re not up for hiking several miles.
