June 1 marks the start of hurricane season, and this weekend’s potential severe weather serves as an important reminder that preparedness starts now.
While hurricanes may not directly impact the City of South Fulton, their effects can still be felt across Georgia through severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and power outages.
As we monitor the potential for severe weather this weekend, now is a great time to review your emergency plans, build or restock your emergency kit, and ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Tackling some spring cleaning or painting this weekend?
Oil-soaked rags can start a fire if not handled safely. As oil-based paints and stains dry, they give off heat. If rags are piled up or put in a closed container, that heat can build up and start a fire.
Stay safe:
• Lay rags flat to dry outside, away from anything that can burn
• Or place them in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid
