Once again, another awesome program put on by Mrs. Pitts and Madras Middle School! The best way to start the day.

At Madras Middle School’s Black History Program, students were reminded that dreams have power, but only if paired with hard work, commitment and sacrifice.

Guest speaker Kelvin O. Thomas shared his own journey in education, encouraging students to imagine their futures and take the steps to make those dreams real.

It was truly a wonderful celebration this evening as Elm Street Elementary marked its 70th Anniversary. This school is a special place in our community, with a legacy that spans generations. It was special to hear Dr. Gregory, Mr. Farmer, Mr. Sears and others (including my mom and Mrs. Sears 😂) share their stories, bringing the school’s history to life through their personal experiences and memories. It was also incredibly meaningful to celebrate alongside two other current Board of Education members and a few other former members who also once walked these halls as students. It serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact Elm Street has had, and continues to have, on those it serves.

Stay safe and warm!

Due to the likely impacts of this weekend’s winter weather event, all Coweta County Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26.

The National Weather Service currently has Coweta within a Winter Weather Advisory, with impacts to our county likely from precipitation and subfreezing temperatures Sunday into Monday. This produces a likelihood of freezing conditions on roadways and other hazards Monday morning.

Also, in addition to ordering a statewide State of Emergency, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a statement at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday ordering all non-emergency state employees in the north Georgia area to remain at home on Monday. The area for this order includes Coweta and adjacent counties.

Because of this, all Coweta schools will be closed for students and employees on Monday, and all extracurricular activities scheduled for Monday will be cancelled and rescheduled.

We will assess county conditions following Sunday night’s anticipated freeze, and communicate with parents Monday afternoon about resuming normal school operations on Tuesday, January 27.

‼️

❄️ Cold overnight temperatures are ahead.
With lows expected to dip into the teens early next week, now is a good time to take steps to help prevent frozen pipes.

Before heading to bed:
• Drip faucets on exterior walls
• Open cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate
• Cover or wrap exposed pipes

For additional tips on preparing your home, visit:

Small steps now can help avoid bigger issues later.

Last Tuesday at the Board of Education meeting, we heard from Ms. Fleming’s 5th grade students from Welch Elementary School during the recognition portion. They took us through multiple mathematics standards through “The Classroom Cafe”. They were kind enough to bring us some hot chocolate.
