The City of South Fulton Office of Emergency Management is monitoring significantly colder conditions moving into the area following the passage of a strong cold front.

According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect today (Sunday) beginning at 6:00 PM and continuing through Monday at 8:00 AM.

Temperatures will continue to fall through the remainder of the day and into the overnight hours, with low temperatures in the teens and lower 20s by Monday morning.

Sustained northwest winds of 15–25 mph, with gusts up to 30–35 mph, will contribute to dangerously cold wind chills in the single digits to teens, particularly tonight into Monday morning.

Winds are expected to be strongest through this evening before gradually weakening overnight.

A warming trend is expected to begin Tuesday. Potential Impacts include:
Increased risk of cold-related illness for individuals without adequate heat or shelter, especially vulnerable populations.

Dangerous conditions for pets left outdoors without proper shelter
Exposed pipes at risk of freezing or bursting.

Damage to sensitive or unprotected plants.

Hazardous wind chill values due to strong, gusty winds.

Residents are encouraged to protect the four Ps: Pets, Pipes, Plants, and People by providing warm shelter for people and animals, covering exposed pipes, bringing sensitive plants indoors, and wearing appropriate cold-weather clothing when outdoors.

The City of South Fulton Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor conditions and coordinate with regional partners, including AFCEMA, and will share additional updates as they become available.

The city of South Fulton is marking National Hispanic Heritage Month with the return of its signature cultural celebration, the Azúcar Music Festival.

Now in its third year, the festival is hosted in collaboration with Councilwoman Linda Pritchett and highlights the vibrant traditions, music, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

This year’s lineup features Tito Puente Jr., Jessy Diaz, Luis Alas, and Pete Rodriguez. Music styles include salsa, Latin jazz, merengue, and mambo. Along with the live performances, the festival will have food vendors and Hispanic-owned businesses selling traditional dishes and cultural items.

Pritchett emphasized that the festival fosters community connections and celebrates Hispanic culture across South Fulton and nearby neighborhoods.

“As a proud Afro Latina, I am excited to bring back the Azucar Music Festival to the City of South Fulton, which people have greatly enjoyed over the last few years,” Pritchett said. “It is important to celebrate the cultural diversity that makes the City of South Fulton special.”

The festival is set to be held at the Wolf Creek Amphitheater on Sept. 20 from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and is free to the public.
