Newton County is pleased to announce the ribbon cutting for the new Senior Enrichment Center will take place March 19.
The ceremonial opening of the new facility, funded by the 2023 SPLOST will begin at 1 p.m.
The new Senior Enrichment Center is located at 40 Richards Chapel Road, Covington next to Denny Dobbs Park.

Due to the weather conditions, Newton County courthouses will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, per District Attorney Randy McGinley.

"Both the Newton and Walton County Courthouses are closed Monday," the DA's office wrote on Facebook. "Newton residents: if you received a juror summons, you do NOT need to appear Monday or the rest of the week."

An update from Newton County EMA reported that there were no major overnight incidents. Freezing rain has iced over trees and buildings around our area, and freezing rain and additional precipitation are possible throughout the morning, Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Temperatures are expected to warm up in the afternoon but more adverse conditions are anticipated when temperatures begin to drop. Refreezing is possible as extreme cold is expected overnight into the morning.

We encourage our citizens to limit travel if possible and be aware of icy surfaces. Teams continue to monitor weather conditions, but we encourage you to follow your local weather sources for weather updates.
