During our recent “What’s on the Ballot” Tele-Town Hall, I shared a moment that reminded me why voter engagement is so important.

While distributing voter education materials at a local supermarket, I met a 21-year-old young man who planned to take the information home to his mother. Instead, I encouraged him to take ownership of his own civic responsibility. When I learned he wasn’t registered, we took a moment to get him started.

That conversation was about more than registering one voter. It was about reminding the next generation that their voices belong in the decisions shaping their communities and their future.

We cannot leave civic participation to someone else. Whether you’re a first-time voter or a longtime participant, make your voting plan today, know what’s on your ballot, and encourage someone else to do the same.

Recently, I was honored alongside five distinguished women leaders in metro Atlanta as the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) recognized us with its Leadership Award. 🏆

Known collectively as the “Atlanta Metro 6,” we represent six counties united by a shared commitment to public service and building stronger communities.

✨ Congratulations to my fellow honorees:

Yesterday, I joined our community and development partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Lulah Hills and the next chapter for DeKalb.

For generations, North DeKalb Mall was a familiar gathering place. The transformation into Lulah Hills gives us an opportunity to honor that history while creating a destination that reflects how people want to live, work, shop, and connect today.

This vision brings homes, businesses, restaurants, and public gathering spaces together in a walkable community, and creates opportunities for economic growth, more housing choices, new amenities, and stronger connections for residents.

As CEO, I remain focused on what investment means for the people of DeKalb County. We want entrepreneurs to see a future here. We want families to find community here. We want longtime residents to see their needs reflected as our communities grow.

This groundbreaking is a meaningful sign of confidence in DeKalb County and the possibilities ahead. I look forward to seeing Lulah Hills come to life and the opportunities this next chapter will create for our community.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our “What’s on the Ballot” Tele-Town Hall last night!

More than 41,000 residents participated by phone and online, making it clear that DeKalb voters are engaged and ready to make their voices heard this election season.

I’m grateful to Melissa Faye Manrow, President of the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County, and Keisha Smith, Executive Director of DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections, for joining me for an important conversation about the ballot, voting process, and what residents need to know before Election Day. 🗳️

My team and I recently had the pleasure of touring the progress on the new Claratel Community Access Center, an important resource that will serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism.

Investments like this help create more opportunities for connection, support, and inclusion across our community. I look forward to seeing this center reach completion and begin serving the individuals and families who will benefit from it.

Today, I joined County leadership to address DeKalb County’s decision to pursue legal action related to the 2021 Land Exchange Agreement involving Intrenchment Creek Park.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners has authorized the County to move forward with legal action concerning obligations associated with the agreement, including specified park improvements valued at up to $1.5 million. Today, DeKalb County formally filed the lawsuit.

As Chief Executive Officer, I have a responsibility to protect DeKalb County’s interests, safeguard public assets, and ensure that the County receives the benefits for which it negotiated.

Because this matter involves pending or anticipated legal action, we will allow the legal process to determine the facts and any appropriate remedy. We will not speculate about the outcome or discuss privileged legal advice.

DeKalb County will continue to protect its rights and act in the public interest, while providing additional information when it is legally appropriate to do so.

Thank you to the more than 200 DeKalb County residents who joined our virtual Second Quarter Town Hall. Your participation and engagement are an important part of keeping our communities informed and moving DeKalb forward.

During the town hall, we shared updates from the administration on key priorities, including strengthening our water system, implementing the operational assessment, public safety, code compliance, and our Comprehensive Housing Plan.

Our work is ongoing, and keeping residents informed is essential to building trust, accountability, and a stronger DeKalb.
