With freezing temperatures in the forecast, it’s crucial to take steps to protect your property from potential damage caused by frozen pipes. When water freezes inside pipes, it expands, leading to cracks and costly repairs. The good news? A simple action can help prevent this:
Drip your faucets.
Here’s why:
• Keeping a small, steady flow of water through your pipes helps prevent freezing.
• Moving water is less likely to freeze compared to stagnant water.
Additional Tips to Protect Your Pipes:
1 Insulate Exposed Pipes: Use foam pipe insulation for any pipes exposed to cold air.
2 Open Cabinet Doors: Allow warm air to circulate around pipes under sinks.
3 Keep Your Thermostat Consistent: Maintain a steady indoor temperature, even during non-business hours.
4 Disconnect Outdoor Hoses: Drain and store them to prevent freezing.

We are currently experiencing discolored/dirty water in some areas due to routine fire hydrant maintenance. This temporary issue can occur when hydrants are flushed and naturally disturb sediment in the water lines.

Our crew is actively working to clear up the issue as quickly as possible, and water quality should return to normal soon.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you continue to experience dirty water after flushing your taps, please contact our office.

Thank you for your cooperation!

The water system has been restored to full operation and the microbiological quality of the water has been determined to be safe for consumption.

A boil water advisory was issued Monday as a precaution because a water source pressure level dropped below 20 psi due to multiple service line breaks within Butts County. Twenty-four hour bacteria tests were performed and have come back negative, indicating that the water is safe to use for all normal purposes.

12/28/2022

UPDATE: The water system is completely full. Crews are collecting bacteria samples to confirm that your water is bacteria free before you can begin using it without boiling it first. The results will be ready tomorrow.

UPDATE: Multiple water service line breaks found within the City of Jackson and outside of the City, resulted in a major loss for the County and discolored water. The system is slowly improving, with reports of 50psi and above in certain areas. As of now, Butts County remains under a boil water advisory until testing is complete.

Effective immediately, Butts County is under a boil water advisory. Our team is working on resolving the loss of water throughout the county. The issue is believed to be related to a water main break

Once water service is be restored, we must to do a bacteria test to confirm that your water is bacteria free before you begin using it to drink or cook without boiling it first. This test takes twenty-four hours to complete.

This notice is being issued as to comply with State of Georgia requirements. A potential health hazard may exist in areas that experienced zero pressure from backflow and/or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality from homes into the water distribution system.

In order to protect customers from a potential health hazard, all customers that have experienced water outage and/or low water pressures are advised to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

We expect that this “boil water”notice will be lifted as soon as possible when testing is completed. You may check our web site at www.buttswsa.com or call our office at 770-775-0042 to confirm that the “boil water” notice has been lifted.

The Authority will implement a rate increase effective on the December 1, 2022 billing. This will be for water used in November. For an average household using 5,000 gallons of water per month, the monthly bill will rise from $29.50 to $33.50, a 13.6% increase. This is the first rate change on the system since September 2018.

On October 7, 2021 around 4:00 p.m. The propellers and axels inside of the submersible pump at the truck stop lift station disassembled. An estimated 50,000 gallons of wastewater, mostly used to clean lettuce leaked in Brushy Creek and possibly High Falls Lake. Sewer Plant Manager, Andre Thomas, does not think the spill would cause any health problems.

The spill did not affect our drinking water system, nor is it expected to impact any downstream water supplier.
