💙 Employee Spotlight: Akuba
Meet Akuba, a dedicated case manager of our New Horizons program in Atlanta, whose path to Nicholas House has been shaped by resilience, compassion, and a commitment to helping others.
From a young age, Akuba knew she wanted to make a difference. After 12 years in the corporate world, a personal health journey led her to return to social services—where her heart had always been.
Before joining Nicholas House, Akuba worked closely with young girls who had experienced severe trauma and exploitation. The work was intense, but it reinforced her belief in the importance of showing people they are worthy of care, support, and love—without conditions. She built meaningful relationships and became a steady presence in the lives of those who needed it most.
That same passion now guides her work with families at Nicholas House.
Akuba is driven by the belief that every family deserves the opportunity to move beyond survival and experience a different kind of life—one filled with possibility, stability, and hope.
“The goal is for families to not just have a place to live, but to be able to maintain it and build something lasting for themselves,” she shares.
For Akuba, the most rewarding moments aren’t always the big milestones—they’re the everyday victories. Watching families celebrate holidays in their own homes, seeing children thrive, and hearing parents express joy in having a space of their own are the moments that stay with her.
Her work isn’t without challenges. It can be emotionally demanding, and progress doesn’t always come easily. But through it all, Akuba remains committed to walking alongside families—encouraging them, advocating for them, and helping them see possibilities beyond their current circumstances.
She also wants supporters to know just how much their generosity matters.
“Even if you don’t see everything that happens day to day, your support truly makes a difference for our families.”
When she’s not working, Akuba enjoys recharging with music, audiobooks, and time spent with close friends and family.
Thank you, Akuba, for the heart, dedication, and compassion you bring to Nicholas House every day. 💙

In April, we were grateful to welcome The Barnes Law Office with the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers to Nicholas House for a special dinner service 💙
Their team provided not only a warm meal for the families we serve, but also meaningful time and fellowship that helped create a sense of comfort, connection, and community.
We are especially thankful to Antoinette Milton for helping make this opportunity possible and for supporting our families in such a thoughtful way.
Thank you for partnering with us to care for families experiencing homelessness and helping make Nicholas House feel even more like home. ✨

When C’Arica and her four children came to Nicholas House, they were facing homelessness, grief, job loss, and overwhelming challenges that left their family searching for stability and hope.
Through our New Horizons program, C’Arica’s family was connected to permanent supportive housing, case management, and mental health services that helped them begin rebuilding their lives step by step.
Today, her children are thriving in school, the family has a safe and peaceful place to call home, and C’Arica has secured employment while continuing to work toward long-term self-sufficiency.
Her story is a powerful reminder that when families are met with compassion, stable housing, and supportive services, healing and transformation are possible 💙
