Zam Mung, a former principal of Pyidawtha Adventist School in Myanmar, recently shared with me drone footage and the sad news that "all the Pyidawtha school buildings, staff housing, the pastor's house, and the chapel hall were reduced to ashes. There is no more school left-no teachers, no students, everything was destroyed." He further stated that "the military burned the whole village, only a handful of houses are left out of a thousand." Mr. Mung had purchased a plot of land in Pyidawtha with the intention of building a modest retirement home there when he retired soon from a teaching position at MUAS (Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, but now the town is uninhabitable and his plot is worthless. Please pray for Mr. Mung, the pastor, school staff, students, and all their families.

Note: Over the past several years, the F.R.E.E. organization has had the privilege of enabling several refugee students from Pyidawtha Adventist School to attend school here in Duluth, Georgia, at Duluth Adventist Christian School and Atlanta Adventist Academy.

On Friday, I was blessed and extremely surprised to be honored by the teachers, staff, and especially the students for my volunteer work with the F.R.E.E. organization at DACS/AAA and in the local refugee community over the past few years. I will always cherish all the photos taken with each class and the many thank-you notes from all the students. I've included a few examples of the many notes I received on Friday, as well as some of the numerous notes I have received over the years. They make my heart melt. Working with the children has brought immense joy into my life, which was made ever greater as my wife and I were blessed to have three refugee children, students at DACS/AAA, live with us in our home for a few years.

Imagine living overseas in a 3rd world country, desperately poor and barely getting by. Then a glimmer of hope. The United Nations, together with the U.S. Government, resettles your family to the United States. Lacking education and English language skills, your parents struggle to find employment. They are often bewildered when navigating government bureaucracy, healthcare needs, and daily life chores, all while hoping their children can get an education they were denied. The stress is most surely enormous! This set of circumstances screams for a solution, which the Friends of Refugees Providing Education and Empowerment organization strives to provide. We distribute donations of all manner of food, furniture, household goods, clothing, shoes, school supplies, etc. Then we transport individuals to eye doctors, healthcare, and dental appointments. Most importantly, we seek funding assistance for school tuition and arrange for refugee children to attend school so that, in a single generation, we see a community change from dependency and desperation to college-educated contributors to society. Together with your support and donations, and the almighty power of God, the world can be changed.
