Over the past few years, my work in youth coaching and development has evolved into something deeper.
I’ve been studying and applying trauma-informed resilience frameworks designed to help people move from survival mode to sustainable strength.
BOLTS — Breath of Life Trauma Services — is the formal expression of that work.

Day 2

Yesterday we introduced the following question: What to do when you feel that your contributions (to your family/group/organization/etc) aren't good enough?

Today we delve into step one and explain why it's important to look inside first.

Step 1) Identify what affirms you. (Makes you feel honored/loved/respected)

What to do when you feel that your contributions (to your family/group/organization/etc) aren't good enough?

1) Identify what affirms you. (Makes you feel honored/loved/respected)
2) Identify who's affirmation (honor/love/respect) you desire the most
3) Identify the best way to have that conversation with that person/those people, have the conversation(s) and make the necessary adjustments towards internal and external congruence

Bill & Ted icon Alex Winter says sexual abuse he experienced as a child left him with PTSD 09/22/2020

I had extreme PTSD for many, many years, and that will wreak havoc on you. It’s a way in which you relate to the world around you and to yourself, and it’s very nuanced, but you can become very fractured,” he told The Guardian. “So you slowly compartmentalise. You keep this thing over here, you keep that thing over there, and you don’t have any natural equilibrium. That fracturing just gets worse and worse and worse. By your mid-20s, it’s like you’re holding those different selves together with duct tape. That’s when you see kids overdosing or blowing their heads off...'

I ran across this article today after spending the day educating students on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the impact that traumatic experiences can have on us if left unchecked. Too often, people (young and old; male and female) suppress as opposed to address our beliefs, feelings and thoughts about our experiences and it limits us to simply existing in life rather than living life. It's my desire to see students realize the potential of their future despite the present limitations of a traumatic experience. Though they don't always control how their stories begin, I believe they can resiliently and resourcefully control the way it ends. Before it's too late...

Testing 1, 2

Good Afternoon,

My name is Reginald (Reggie) Hurns and I have the pleasure of wearing a lot of hats, but I write this as Small Business Owner! My business, Breath Of Life Youth Coaching, LLC, exists to support people in overcoming the emotional, mental, personal and social barriers that keep us from identifying and pursuing their purpose, or what I call their Divine Design. As the name states, my area of emphasis is Middle School, High School and College Undergraduate aged Youth and their support systems, but I’m more than happy to assist those who may fall outside of this range.

I truly believe that we all have a purpose we are designed to fulfill and the conscious pursuit of this design adds meaning and value to our day to day lives. The truth is that many people believe this way also, whether they believe in the Divine (or supernatural) or not. Oftentimes, people can get so caught up in the day to day details of life that we are unable to take a step back to assess where we are in relation to the bigger picture. Or others are so discouraged by where they are in relation to the bigger picture that they choose to give up on their pursuit.

As with coaches in sports, Life Coaches come alongside people to help hold us accountable, encourage and motivate us past our limitations and keep us disciplined and focused towards a desired result. As we prepare to enter 2019, I ask you to consider 2018 and the things you accomplished or left undone. In regards to things you could control, what steps did you have to do to accomplish the things you are most proud of for 2018? On the other hands, what steps did you not follow through on that that aided in your other goals not coming to pass? What assistance or support would you need to ensure that the goals you set in 2019 are all done?
