A PASSION FOR SOULS
09/10/24

“PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17

I’ve borrowed a quotation from a quote by Charles Spurgeon:

“We cannot go on as some churches do without converts. We cannot, we will not, we must not, we dare not. Souls must be converted here, and if there be not many born to Christ, may the Lord grant to me that I may sleep in the tomb and be heard no more. Better indeed for us to die than to live, if souls be not saved. If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there ….unwarned and unprayed for.”

That reminds me of the prayer of the Apostle Paul, who cried, “For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own race...” (Romans 9:2)

Moses expressed that same concern: “.. please forgive their sin --- but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written…. (Exodus 32:32)

There’s passion in those words. Their heart reaches out to a generation of the lost who have not been warned that judgment awaits the transgressor but that the Grace of God pardons the one who sins, who seeks His forgiveness. There is hope. There is a way that people can be freed from guilt and condemnation. Christ is the answer. He is willing to forgive anyone who will call on His name; but it takes people to tell the story and stand in the gap on the behalf of those who have not yet heard the message.

May our hearts hurt for the true needs of those who live around us and across the seas. May there be a swelling of soul to encompass the broken and the bruised of our society with the compassion of the Grace of God. May our spiritual eyes be opened to the opportunities of these days to reach out to those that Jesus loved enough to lay down His life.

We’ve a story to tell and we need to step out and do exactly that. Time is short and the task is great. Only as each of us does our part will the souls of men be won. The greatest battle we may be facing in the matter of soul winning is our apathy to the need of men and to the call of God.

Sincerely,
Brian Duncalfe

*__It is a mistake to think time is going. Time is not going. Time is here until the world ends. It is you that is going. You don’t waste time. Time is infinite. You waste yourself. You are finite. It is you that grows old and die. Time doesn’t. So make better use of yourself before you expire. And one of the worst things to do with time is comparing yourself to others. A cow eats grass and gets fat but if dog eats grass, it will die. Never compare yourself with others. Run your race. What works for one person may be that which will kill you. Focus on the gifts and talents God gave you and don’t be envious of the blessings He gave others_ .*

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

“If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your body?’ he will answer, ‘The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.’” Zechariah 13:6

It’s too bad that the cross has become such a beautiful symbol in the Church. We have lost sight of the awful consequences that the original cross was intended to convey. It was a tool of ex*****on. To those who stood to be judged by a Roman court it was a fearsome thought that sentence could be passed for one to be nailed to the cross as the penalty of their crime. It was generally a public, open, ex*****on where crowds could observe the shame, agony and suffering of the criminal. It was designed to be a deterrent, as well as a sentence of death. It provided a slow death of lingering suffering and pain and gave the cruel soldiers an opportunity to play agonizing games with their prey.

It would be very difficult for us to fully understand the degree of suffering that was inflicted on the prisoners. So severe was the prolonged agony that the means of ex*****on has been eradicated from a civilized society. But what amazes me is that Jesus knew, well before He came to live in our world, that He had an appointment with the nails and a cross on a hill outside of the city of Jerusalem, yet He willingly came. There were no surprises to Him. I understand, from the human perspective, why Jesus dreaded the cross and why His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane was so intense. Just hours before the Garden experience He said to His disciples, “Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.” (John 12:27)

It was obvious throughout His ministry that He was in charge of every situation and had a way of taking control under difficult circumstances; but to die on a cross, He needed to surrender His authority to the fury of an angry mob and the cruel hands of the Roman soldiers. That was the decision that He had made well before He came into the world. He affirmed that decision when He told His disciples, “I lay down my life…. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.” (John 10:18)

Now I don’t know about you but I do everything possible to avoid pain. I don’t like shame either. There are very few circumstances that would cause me to consider enduring painful situations for the benefit of others. But Jesus, knowing that His suffering and death would open an opportunity for ALL men Everywhere to find forgiveness of sins and an opportunity to become heir to the promises of God, was willing to lay His life down. Without His willingness to go to the Cross, we would have no hope of pleasing the Father. The writer of the book of Hebrews caught the feelings of the heart of Jesus when he said, “.. who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame…” (Hebrews 12:2) His joy was to provide hope for each of us by dying on a cross in our place.

Glory Hallelujah to His Holy Name IJMN Amen and Amen!!!!!!!!!

BIBLE STUDY TIME::::

✨ HE CAME BACK TO US IN THE HOLY SPIRIT✨

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also
(John 14:3).

Many still grapple with what the Lord Jesus meant in the verse above when He said, “...I will come again, and receive you unto myself....” Some think He was referring to the Second Coming or the Rapture, but that’s not what He was talking about in that verse.

To understand what Jesus meant, you’ll have to stay in the context and understand His message with your spirit, not with your senses. When you study the full chapter you’d observe that He continued the same interesting discourse till He got to the 16th verse where He said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.”

The term “another Comforter” is the Greek phrase, “Allos paraklētos,” meaning another of the same kind. Jesus Christ introduced the Holy Spirit at that point. Then He said, “…ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:17). How did the Holy Spirit dwell with them at the time?
Wasn’t He supposed to come back on the Day of Pentecost?

That tells us something.
He wasn’t talking about the Holy Spirit alone;
He was also referring to Himself! To drive that point home, He went back to what He said in our theme verse, “...I will come again, and receive you unto myself....” Then in verse 18, He said, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” How and when would He come to them?

In the 20th verse, He said, “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” What day was He talking about? Evidently, He was talking about the day when the Holy Spirit comes. So, when He said, “I will come to you,” He meant “I’ll come to you in the Holy Spirit.”

And thanks be unto God! On the Day of Pentecost, He fulfilled that precious promise: “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance”
(Acts 2:4).
He’s in you today in all His fullness.
Praise The Lord God!!!!!!!

PRAYER:
Thank you blessed heavenly Father for the fullness of the Spirit in me and the glory and excellence of my life as a result of your indwelling presence. By the Holy Spirit, my faith is strengthened and stirred to do the will of God and fulfil God’s purpose for my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
John 14:23
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

John 14:15-20
If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

A LIFESTYLE OF FAITH [ TRUST IN THE LORD GOD ]:
The word “testament” is better translated as “covenant.” So there is the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. A covenant is an agreement between two or more parties.
When you accepted The Lord Jesus Christ into your life as your personal Savior, you agreed with the almighty God. In our day, this agreement would be known as a contract. That is why understanding faith is so important. It is more than belief; it is the agency that brought you into a relationship with God.
A lifestyle of faith will make sure you receive all of the benefits of your contract. Some of God’s covenants were unconditional, and some of His covenants were conditional.
We are living under the new covenant and this is a Conditional Covenant. ( John 3:16 ).
Prayerfully read Hebrews 11:40.

A LIFESTYLE OF FAITH:
Hast thou faith? Have it to thyself before God ...For whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:22-23). Faith is a lifestyle requirement for the just.
If you have acknowledged Jesus, you are considered just because of His blood. This justified life calls for faith. We have also noticed that faith is the substance of things.
It is impossible to serve God and not receive hope. The scripture says we can know “…what is the hope of His calling.” (Ephesians 1:18) Faith is the material that encourages us to keep hoping. However, “hope that is seen is not hope at all.” (Romans 8:24)
Faith then becomes the evidence of things that are not seen; therefore keep faith alive by continuing to listen to the Word of God.
Read Rom.10:17 prayerfully.

FAITH DELIVERS:
When I hope for something, faith is my substance.
When I need something good in my life, faith helps me obtain it.
When I need understanding, faith delivers it.
When you properly and correctly define faith, you properly and correctly define your walk with God.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8.
Without faith, the grace would have been rendered useless. So your faith is your agent.
What does an agent do? They help their clients with the things that are most important to them. Your faith will help you with what is most important to you.
As a Christian, pleasing God should be what we deem the most important.
Your agent named faith makes pleasing God possible.
When God is pleased, your life is miraculously benefited.
Read Rom. 1:17 prayerfully.

TRUE FAITH DEMANDS ACTION:
“Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth.
And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.” John 4:50.
God’s Word has all power, but all that power will not be released until we believe it.

Many people know God’s Word is true and pray for its power to be released in their lives.
But it won’t happen through desire alone. We have to believe it. Many people are afraid to believe because they know true faith demands actions. It’s easier to just pray and then if nothing happens in the physical, say we are waiting on God. But God is waiting for us to believe.
Read Psalm 107:20 prayerfully.

Glory be onto The Lord God Hallelujah to His Holy Name IJMN Amen and Amen!!!!!!!!!!
