Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins today. 💜

Domestic violence does not exist in isolation, and ending it cannot be the responsibility of one person, one profession, or one organization.

It takes a coordinated community response.

Advocates. Law enforcement. Prosecutors. Courts. Healthcare providers. Educators. Community organizations. Prevention professionals. And, most importantly, survivors and the communities that surround them.

Each has a role to play. And when we connect those roles, share information, strengthen partnerships, and work toward a common goal, we create a response that is stronger than any one system could provide alone.

This October, let's move beyond awareness.

Let's connect. Let's collaborate. Let's act.

Because ending domestic violence takes all of us.

Su***de prevention is family violence prevention—and family violence prevention is su***de prevention.

As we close out September, we’re recognizing Su***de Prevention Month by highlighting an often-overlooked intersection: murder-su***de.

In Georgia in 2025, 49% of family violence-related fatalities resulted from murder-su***de, even though murder-su***de incidents represented only 37% of family violence-related fatal incidents.

These numbers remind us that preventing family violence fatalities requires us to recognize and address su***de risk as part of lethality prevention.

🚨 THIS ISN'T A LECTURE. IT'S A CASE.

What would you do if you were the officer responding to a domestic violence call?

What information would you need? What evidence would you collect? What decisions would you make?

At Critical Decisions: Building Domestic Violence Cases from First Response to Conviction, participants will work through two real Georgia domestic violence cases, examining critical decision points from the initial 911 call through investigation, arrest decisions, trial preparation, and conviction.

Using actual case materials and interactive discussion, participants will examine what happened, identify missed opportunities, and explore how decisions can shape victim safety, officer safety, offender accountability, and successful prosecution.

Today, we remember the lives taken by violence—and the families, friends, children, and communities forever changed by their loss.

For GCFV, this day carries a particular significance. Family violence can have devastating and sometimes fatal consequences, leaving behind far more than a single empty chair. Each life lost represents a family forever changed, a community grieving, and a future that will never unfold as it should have.

We remember those whose lives were taken.
We honor those who survive them.
And we remain committed to the work of preventing family violence and reducing the loss of life it can cause.

Today, and every day, we remember.

Men can be survivors, too.

Domestic violence against men can include emotional abuse, coercive control, stalking, financial abuse, physical violence, and technology-facilitated abuse.

Too often, stereotypes about masculinity make male survivors feel invisible—or make it harder to ask for help.

We see you. We believe you. You deserve safety, too.
