For those of you who met, talked to, petted or gave a belly rub to the best boy ever, I am sad to announce the passing of our beloved Tokyo. He died yesterday as Miriam and I helped him calmly transition. His last meal was a yummy combo of tuna and girl scout cookies. His burst of energy and interest in eating was shocking and rewarding. For the past week Tokyo has been in acute renal failure and spending his days at the vet’s clinic from 8 am to 6 pm and spending the evening lying lifelessly in his bed. He refused to eat and lost an interest in drinking water. But his zeal for life temporarily improved when Miriam rushed home from an out of state trip to spend time with him. Tokyo spent Friday, Saturday and this morning, basking in the loving care of his best friend, Miriam. He suddenly found the energy to go on long walks, drink lots of water, eat an ounce or 2 of boiled chicken, and just going back to being his old self. But the renal disease that had plagued him for over 10 years was a relentless foe. He lived a vibrant 15 years—despite his illness. We loved him deeply and will miss him completely. Farewll sweet Tokyo. ‘Til we meet again.

To all my fellow pet owners who live in or near Kirwkwood:

Today is the annual Pet Picnic in the Park!! Come and enjoy a fun day in the Park with your family pet.

I am a proud sponsor of this year’s awesome event.

Several years ago, my beloved Tokyo (now a 13 year old Cockapoo) attended the very first pet blessing in the park. A few months later Tokyo was diagnosed with stage 1 kidney failure.

According to our vet, Tokyo was “lucky” this disease was found so early. Tokyo and I know the early diagnosis was a blessing - not luck!

Glad to join these two, Mack and Johnny (and Shaq’s size 22 shoes), at the Annual Toy Drive in East Point.  When Shaq showed up the real celebration began!!  Mack’s sweater would have been an excellent entrant for an ugly sweater contest!! 🤣😂   Nikema Williams Cassandra Kirk Mims
