A global symbol of liberation now welcomes travelers to Atlanta 🌍✨
Yesterday, the City of Atlanta unveiled a sculpture honoring President Nelson Mandela at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Gifted to Mayor Andre Dickens during a South African delegation trip, the sculpture now stands as a symbol of courage, connection, and shared history.
Mandela’s legacy is deeply connected to Atlanta’s civil rights story, from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s global vision of justice to Ambassador Andrew Young’s work in the anti-apartheid movement and longstanding ties to South Africa.
With direct service to South Africa, Hartsfield-Jackson is a fitting home for this tribute, connecting Mandela’s legacy to Atlanta’s history and the ongoing bond between our city and South Africa.
