Family Court Judge Caught in Bait and Switch That Cost Father 28 Months and Two Appeals. The Game Continues.

Seminole County, Florida.

On August 28th, 2026, a second appeal against Judge Christopher Sprysenski was acknowledged by the Fifth District Court of Appeals. This is stemming from the family court case 59-2017-DR-4000. The second appeal case, 5D2026-2573, is active now.

Judge Christopher Sprysenski was reversed on his first appeal by the 5th DCA on May 5th, 2026 for denying a father's motion after stringing him along for 10 months with three hearings that were never held, then flat-out denying the motion without ever holding a hearing.

That divorce case has been open since 2017.

After six years of litigation, the trial finally began on June 13, 2023, spanning over five months and four days in front of General Magistrate Nardi, finally ending on November 13, 2023.

Nearly three months later, Judge Rudisill adopted General Magistrate Nardi's recommendations and entered a final judgment on February 7, 2024.

Nine days later, father, through counsel, asked to vacate that judgment.

Judge Sprysenski, now on the case:

• Sets a hearing and pushes it.

• Sets a second hearing and pushes it.

• Sets a third hearing and cancels it.

• Dec 19, 2024 - 10 months later, denies the motion to vacate.

Now father, through counsel, has to appeal.

That appeal sat for 16 months.

On May 5th, 2026, the 5th DCA reversed it [Docket 436], finding it was reversible error to deny after father timely filed, scheduled a hearing date, and provided most transcripts. Mandate issued May 26th [Docket 440].

That means it took 28 months from Final Judgment for father to finally get a hearing on June 30th, 2026 at 2:15 p.m. through remote proceedings lasting for about an hour and a half.

On August 11th, 2026, Judge Sprysenski denied the father's motion anyway.

On August 24th, 2026 father, through counsel, filed notice of appeal.

On August 28th, 2026 the 5th DCA acknowledged it.

And the game continues.

That first reversal is what led to this docket. A file that now holds more than 450 entries across eight years, with at least 41 professionals attached to it to date - judges, general magistrates, attorneys, guardians ad litem, mediators, custody evaluators, and court staff.

Every entry represents billable hours. Filing fees. Time away from work. Time away from family.

The total cost of this case is not in the public record, but it was not free.

For families caught in litigation that stretches for the better part of a decade, the financial toll becomes its own sentence.

This file is still active. We will continue to follow this case.

BUSTED BENCH: Oklahoma Judge Accused of Fake Rulings, Unconstitutional Acts, and Attempted Cover-Up

DUNCAN, Oklahoma

Stephens County Associate District Judge Lawrence Wheeler, 41, has been caught issuing a court order built on legal cases that do not exist and then allegedly trying to make the complaint against him go away.

The order came last November in a child paternity case. Attorney Michael Beason asked for a psychological evaluation of the father.

The judge did more than say no. He punished the attorney, calling it frivolous and threatening sanctions. He cited two cases, Cummings v. Cimarron Elevator Co. and Hawkins v. Linhart.

Neither exists. The judge later admitted to investigators his research came from ChatGPT.

When the attorney took the fake cases to the Oklahoma Supreme Court in February, investigators say the judge offered a deal: drop the complaint and I will take back my order.

A judge cannot do that. He cannot trade his own punishment to block Supreme Court review.

In a separate case, investigators looked at whether the judge listened in while a jury was deliberating in private.

That violates the Constitution. A jury must be private, or there is no fair trial.

The Attorney General said on September 2 there will be no criminal charges. Judges have broad immunity, and prosecutors rarely bring criminal cases against them. That is the problem.

But this case is not over. It now goes to the Oklahoma Council on Judicial Complaints. The Council can reprimand, suspend, or recommend removal from the bench.

Judicial immunity was meant to protect honest decisions, not fake rulings and closed-door deals. If it protects this, imagine how much more it is protecting.

Should we end judicial immunity?

FLORIDA'S DCF FIX WOULD GIVE MORE POWER TO JUDGES WHO HAVE TOTAL IMMUNITY

After the August 31, 2026 Grand Jury report on DCF failures, Senator Don Gaetz announced a 10-point reform plan for 2027 at a press conference on September 4th at the Santa Rosa County Courthouse that removes immunity from DCF contractors and, in Point #8, gives more power to judges.

Circuit judges in Florida have ABSOLUTE JUDICIAL IMMUNITY and cannot be sued in civil court for any decision they make from the bench. Many are initially appointed by the governor to fill vacancies. These judges rotate between dependency, family law, criminal, and civil divisions.

That immunity covers EVERYTHING. A judge can make a decision based on NOTHING and there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY and NO OVERSIGHT.

The Grand Jury report was about DCF. It was not about judges. It did not address judicial accountability.

The ONLY oversight is an appeal that costs parents THOUSANDS of dollars, or a complaint to the JQC that often goes unheard.

Point #8 gives MORE POWER to these rotating judges, who already have ABSOLUTE IMMUNITY, without adding oversight, without requiring specialization, and without addressing due process.

That means a judge with TOTAL IMMUNITY can override everything else in the 10-point plan.

Point #10 says there must be enforceable legal consequences when families are harmed. Point #8 gives more authority to judges who have NO ENFORCEABLE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES for any decision they make.

That is a CONTRADICTION.

If you want real reform, contact the senators on this committee and contact your own senator in your county. Tell them Point #8 cannot pass without judicial oversight, specialization, due process protections, and inclusion of family court. We cannot fix DCF without fixing the bench.

"IT'S ABOUT TO GET REAL UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE" - SENATOR JASON PIZZO ON FLORIDA DCF FAILURES

September 4, 2026 - Santa Rosa County, Florida

At a press conference outside the Santa Rosa County Courthouse, State Senators Don Gaetz and Jason Pizzo addressed a newly released Grand Jury report exposing failures inside the Florida Department of Children and Families.

"We have a systemic failure of the governmental agency that is supposed to protect and support Florida's children and Florida's families," said Senator Don Gaetz.

He was reacting to a 10-page report that had been released on Aug. 31 from the 5th Judicial Circuit. In that report, the Grand Jury described what they found as "heartbreaking, systemic patterns of neglect, abrogation of statutory responsibilities, as well as operational failures within DCF."

While the report was done in Marion, Lake, Sumter, Citrus and Hernando counties, Senators say this is a statewide issue.

On the very day this Grand Jury was sworn in, they indicted a defendant for first-degree felony murder of a child. They found DCF had investigated and visited that family 14 times before that child was murdered.

That case triggered the 7-month review of the abuse hotline, child and adult investigations, and the private contractors DCF hires.

The report exposes the following:

• They fake paperwork. 12 cases of logging home visits that never happened. 8 led to criminal charges for falsifying records.

• They close cases early. Cases are closed prematurely without thorough review to avoid responsibility.

• They are unprepared in court and ignore court orders. The Grand Jury said DCF doesn't follow orders and doesn't use laws that could protect kids.

• They remove first, offer services never. The Grand Jury found DCF jumps to removal without offering prevention services that could keep families together, violating the requirement to make reasonable efforts to prevent removal.

• They send kids hundreds of miles away. Children are removed from their local judicial circuit and placed far from home, creating a huge barrier to reunification.

• Your rights depend on what county you live in. In Circuit 5, the Grand Jury found DCF not doing enough to protect kids. In the Panhandle, families say the opposite, DCF removes kids too aggressively on too little evidence and sends them hours away.

• They hide evidence from parents. Families aren't given the evidence, case plans, or full records in time to defend themselves in court.

• They coach elderly people to pass tests to close the case. Investigators coach people through capacity tests so they can legally walk away.

• They dump elderly people at the hospital and don't show up after 5 p.m. With no safety plan, vulnerable adults get stuck in hospital beds for months, one up to a year. And if a call comes in about an elderly or disabled adult being abused at night or on a weekend, DCF routinely doesn't respond at all.

• They don't track if kids are actually safer. The Grand Jury found no real data tracking whether children are better off after DCF intervention, no outcome measurements.

• They assign unqualified workers to life and death decisions. High caseloads, low training, and no licensed clinical oversight on decisions that can terminate families.

• Cops had to create their own program to do DCF's job. Marion County law enforcement built a Co-Responder Program because DCF wouldn't respond.

This is not the first time DCF has been exposed. There have been three prior statewide Grand Jury reports:

• 2002: The first report that exposed DCF record falsification and an inability to prosecute staff.

• 2011: The Miami-Dade Grand Jury after the death of 10-year-old Nubia Barahona.

• 2014: A follow-up Miami-Dade Grand Jury that accused DCF of intentionally and deliberately manipulating child death investigations to make it appear fewer children were dying.

Three reports. Over 20 years. Same problems.

At the press conference, Gaetz addressed that history directly.

"If DCF and some of its contractors have failed, so has the Florida legislature, and so have I," said Senator Don Gaetz.

AND DCF'S RESPONSE WHEN CAUGHT:

"The agency delayed, denied, lied, and did nothing when confronted with its failures," said Senator Don Gaetz.

He also called out how easily parental rights are being destroyed.

"The decision by DCF to ask the court to terminate parental rights should not be made by a low-level bureaucrat," said Senator Don Gaetz. He went on to say "a termination of parental rights decision is second in severity only to the death penalty." His bill would require the DCF Secretary to personally approve it.

WHAT HAPPENS NOW - THE 10 REFORMS:

Senator Don Gaetz is drafting legislation with Senators Jason Pizzo, Jennifer Bradley and Erin Grall. All four senators are working together on one or more bills for the 2027 session that will incorporate many of the Grand Jury's 34 recommendations.

Gaetz outlined 10 provisions likely to be included:

1. DCF can contract out services but not accountability. Contracts should be performance based and overseen tightly by DCF, which itself should answer to the governor and legislature.

2. A family's rights should not depend on which county they live in or which contractor holds the local contract. Standards should be uniform statewide.

3. Legal consequences for agency staff or contractors who falsify records or give false testimony to the court.

4. Stronger due process protections for parents to present evidence and dispute agency findings without fear of retaliation.

5. An end to unnecessary removals and placements hundreds of miles from a child's home community.

6. A requirement that DCF and its contractors employ qualified, licensed therapists and medical providers, with fines and contract cancellations for agencies that don't verify credentials.

7. A requirement that the DCF secretary, not a low-level bureaucrat, personally review and approve any decision to seek termination of parental rights.

8. A stronger role for judges as a check on DCF in dependency cases.

9. Legislative follow up on a forensic audit that found one lead agency had excessive executive compensation and improper procurement practices. Child welfare funds should be spent for child welfare.

10. Repeal of sovereign immunity for DCF contractors and providers, so there are enforceable legal consequences for misconduct, negligence or false information that harms children or families.

"There will be considerable forces who will oppose any kind of change, because there are people making a great deal of money off the system the way it works right now," said Senator Don Gaetz.

"I wish I had known more and done more, but now I will," said Senator Don Gaetz.

Pizzo's warning: "Give us a few months. You're going to see a real uncomfortable situation for a lot of people."

If you have a case or experience with DCF, the Senators say they want to hear from you. Over the next few months they will be writing legislation for the 2027 session based on this Grand Jury report.

There is no official submission portal announced yet, but they encouraged families and impacted individuals to contact their offices directly to share what happened.

EXPOSED: Divorce Attorney Sent Explicit Photo to Opposing Mom in Custody Case

Huntersville, North Carolina

Christopher Adkins, a married father of four who runs Adkins Law PLLC in Huntersville, is now under discipline by the North Carolina State Bar for pursuing a sexual relationship with and sending a photo of his ge****ls to the opposing mother in a custody case he was handling.

What the Bar found:

• In August 2023, a father hired Adkins to fight for custody against the mother of his child.

• In April 2024, while in Hawaii and drunk, Adkins was messaging the mother on Facebook Messenger.

• The mother first messaged him asking how they knew each other.

• She then told him you are supposed to represent my ex against me in court for custody in 9 days.

• Adkins told her they should not be friends.

• He kept messaging her anyway. He liked her photos, asked if she was single, asked if she wanted more kids and said he wanted more kids, told her she was attractive, made sexual comments, and sent a photo of his ge****ls.

• On April 6, 2024, Adkins came home and told the dad who hired him that he could not be his lawyer anymore, but did not say why.

• On April 15, 2024, he filed papers to officially get off the case. The mother later turned the messages over to the State Bar.

How it ended:

It took two years for him to face discipline. The Bar investigated and filed charges. Instead of going to trial, the Bar offered Adkins a deal. On May 28, 2026, he signed papers agreeing he broke the rules and agreeing to the punishment. On June 13, 2026, the Bar made it final.

What he was charged with:

• Rule 4.2 - Talking to someone who already has a lawyer: You cannot message the other side when you know they have a lawyer without their lawyer's permission.

• Rule 1.7 - Conflict of interest: A lawyer cannot put his own personal interest ahead of his client.

• Rule 1.4 - Not talking to your own client: A lawyer must properly tell his client what is happening.

His punishment:

Because he took the deal, his two year suspension was stayed, meaning it was put on pause. He only gets to keep that pause if he follows all of these rules:

• For 12 months, must have another adult in the room for every in person meeting with a female client and turn in monthly reports to the Bar

• Must get a mental health evaluation focused on sexual boundaries

• Must get counseling for alcohol

• Must stay up to date on his law license fees and classes

• If he breaks any of those rules, the pause is lifted and he loses his license for two years

The case raises questions about how long attorney discipline takes in North Carolina.

The underlying events happened quickly. The messages were sent in April 2024. Adkins withdrew from the custody case within days. The screenshots were turned over to the Bar shortly after.

Yet it took more than two years, from April 2024 to a final order on June 13, 2026, to resolve.

If a case with screenshots, a confession, and a quick withdrawal takes more than two years, how long does it take to investigate a complaint where there is no paper trail? Five years? Ten years?

During that two year window, Adkins continued to practice family law. New clients hiring him had no public record of the pending case.

Is this acceptable?
