It was an absolute honor to provide the opening remarks for the Central Texas African American Family Support Conference this morning.
Setting the tone for a day dedicated to empowerment, health equity, and community resilience is a responsibility I don’t take lightly. When we come together to share resources and advocate for holistic support, we create a ripple effect that strengthens every family in Central Texas.

🧩 April is National Autism Acceptance Month!

Emergencies like home fires can be overwhelming for people with autism. Planning ahead can make a difference.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Practice fire escape plans often

📢 Alarms can be distressing. Test them together and consider visual alarms

🧸 Include favorite sensory items or blankets in your emergency kit

🗣️ Help them recognize what firefighters might look like in full gear

📋 Use clear visuals and repeat steps often so your loved one knows what to do and feels more confident

“Legacy is not leaving something for people. It’s leaving something in people." -Peter Strople
Giving back to the LBJ School of Public Affairs is about more than supporting an institution—it’s about investing in the future of public service and the leaders who will tackle tomorrow's biggest challenges. Let’s keep building that legacy together. 🤘🧡
