Austin’s music community has lost another one of its own.

We’re heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matthew Smith Matthew Smith , owner of Six String Ranch and a longtime friend to Austin’s music community.

Matthew dedicated his life to music and the people who make it, helping countless artists bring their creativity to life. His passion, generosity, and contributions to our music family made Austin sound that much sweeter.

Our love and condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Thanks Matthew. Rest in Music. ❤️

During last week’s Texas Senate Subcommitee on Business and Commerce, we heard testimony from major ticketing agency players, who defend predatory, inflated and speculative ticketing practices as a benefit to fans.

Nowhere in these conversations was any mention of the artists who create the experiences upon which these profits are made. NONE of the profits pocketed by these agencies goes back into the local ecosystem to support musicians, venues and independent promoters, more often than not leaving our local economy altogether. And when a fan pays $500 for these inflated events, they have little left to spend on a $15 show to see the emerging artists that make Austin the “Live Music Capital of the World”.

will continue to show up and fight for musicians on every front. Stay tuned for next steps on this legislation, and help support our mission by donating at www.atxmusicians.org
