Since the Black Mental Health Task Force (BMHTF)—affectionately known as “The Force”—began, we have moved with one mission in mind: healing the collective.

Over the years, we’ve gathered families, uplifted communities, and created spaces where healing, joy, culture, and connection could thrive. From Black Family Outreach Series events and community wellness gatherings to Juneteenth celebrations in partnership with Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, we have worked to make mental health visible, accessible, and rooted in community.

We’ve hosted galas, facilitated healing-centered programming for children and families, led yoga and wellness activities, produced storytelling projects, and traveled to Ghana to document cultural healing practices through our docuseries. Along the way, we’ve listened, learned, celebrated, and honored the resilience of our communities.

These moments remind us that healing is not only individual—it is collective.

As we reflect on where we’ve been, we are equally excited about where we’re going. While community activations remain at the heart of our work, our next chapter includes strengthening pathways for workforce development, leadership cultivation, and systems change. We are committed to building the next generation of healers, advocates, and changemakers who will continue this work long into the future.

This reel is a celebration of the journey so far—and a reminder that we’re just getting started.

Kwanzaa reminds us that mental wellness is communal, not individual.
The Seven Principles support brain well-being by strengthening connection, purpose, creativity, and hope.

From Umoja (Unity) to Imani (Faith), each candle reflects what our minds need to heal and thrive: belonging, meaning, shared responsibility, and rest.

This is Collective Care: honoring culture, supporting one another, and creating conditions where Black mental health can flourish.
