Something smoky & mouthwatering is blowing through Rosedale Hwy. 🔥

TradewindsBBQ is a family-run Texas-style barbecue spot from pitmaster Mike and his younger brothers, Johnny and Sean. Mike went from a backyard smoker to small barbecue competitions to catering for friends and family. Then he left his career in healthcare and headed to Texas to perfect his craft. 🤠

Tradewinds launched in September 2025 as a pop-up at local markets and found a permanent home at 10614 Rosedale Hwy in July 2026. Everything is built from the ground up and made from scratch. They honor Texas-style barbecue and add a little California love. 🍖

Their brisket is slow smoked with white oak for 16 hours, and the sausages and sides are all made in house. Think ribs, pulled pork, smoked turkey, cowboy beans, potato salad, honey butter cornbread, and banana pudding. They usually sell out early, so check their Instagram for daily updates before you head over. 👀

Meet Valentin and Yvonne Torres, the husband and wife duo behind Torres Taco! ❤️🌮

This Latinx Heritage Month, we’re celebrating a love story and a family legacy more than three decades in the making. Valentin moved to Bakersfield at 23 from Emérita, a small pueblo in Nayarit, Mexico. Yvonne was born and raised right here in Bakersfield. The two met in 1992 while Valentin was working at a local restaurant, and they got married in Las Vegas in 1993. 💍

A year later, they decided to go out on their own. Their goal was simple: work hard and build a good life for themselves and their family. In 1994, Torres Catering was born. 🙌

More than 30 years later, Valentin is still the chef behind the flavors, cooking from scratch with family recipes like his grandmother’s enchilada mole sauce. Their 7 time award winning chile verde continues to win over hearts. 🏆🔥

You can find them regularly at 7825 Rosedale Hwy, and at events across the greater Kern County area, either catering or serving from their truck. 🚚

Before Carb Comeback officially kicked off, Yelp Elites gathered at Magnolia Kitchen | Bakersfield for an exclusive pre-party to celebrate an exciting new chapter for this local favorite. 🥳

Magnolia Kitchen | Bakersfield has moved into a bigger space with a full kitchen, and now serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner alongside the scratch-made cookies, sweets, and drinks people already love. 🍪✨

Our Elites dug into:
🌶️ Chips and salsa
🍛 Morisqueta in a savory chili sauce with rice and beans
🥘 Linguica and peppers with fried potatoes and rice
🍪 Their famous chocolate chip cookies
🍧 Italian ice
🥤 A custom drink created by Magnolia Kitchen, which debuted at the event

Our Elites were the first to taste Magnolia Kitchen’s brand new passion fruit and peach dirty soda with a Sprite base, and our local Elite Squad even got to choose the name for it at the event. Meet Alison Parnell, the founder and owner of Happy nerds pancake labs! 🥞✨

Alison started Happy Nerds Pancake Labs with the hope of building a family business she could pass down to her kids and grandchildren. What started as a dream quickly became a local favorite, serving up delicious mini pancakes at markets and events across Kern County. Her husband Kevin is always happy to lend a helping hand, making this a true family affair. 🙌
