National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day takes place on September 27th of this year. This observance exists to raise awareness about the disproportionate effects of HIV and AIDS on the gay and bisexual men living in the United States and promotes HIV/AIDS testing, prevention, and treatment for this population.

Yesterday the Baltimore City Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs joined Mayor Brandon Scott, The Mayor's Office of Community Affairs, The Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, and councilman Jermaine Jones as we canvassed the Barclay Neighborhood following the killing of Sophie Lee.

As our communities continue to grieve, it is important to be present. We listened to residents, shared resources, and connected community members with City services. These conversations help us better understand the needs of the neighborhood and strengthen our collective approach to safety, healing, and violence prevention.

Mayor Scott was clear, that attacks against the LGBTQIA+ community, including disproportionate violence against Black trans women, has no place in Baltimore City.

September 18th is National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day. This annual observation is led by the AIDS Institute and focuses on the long and full lives being led by those with HIV thanks to advances in treatment.

Today also serves as a time to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, treatment, and education within the aging population.
