Had a great time talking with Chuck from the Muddy Waters podcast. I'm still a little surprised people want to hear what I have to say, but I love talking with people. We covered a lot of ground, from my background to the issues facing Maine to why I'm running. We took a few unexpected turns and I had a blast. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the conversation.

Frank here, running for Maine House District 21. If you're looking for something to do this Saturday, Oct 24, I've got a great afternoon planned.

First, take the kiddos (or yourself) trick or treating in downtown Bangor from 2 to 4 pm. Then come by 76 Main Street between 4 and 6 to meet me, ask me questions, or just chat. Pizza is on me, and I'll have treats for the kids too.

Free and open to everyone. Hope to see you there!

Free pizza for Bangor families this Saturday

Lucky timing: Bangor's trick or treat is this Saturday, October 24th, from 2 to 4. Need something to do afterwards? I've got you covered. My meet and greet is right after, from 4 to 6 at 76 Main Street. Fill the kiddos' buckets with treats, then bring them over for pizza. Food's on me.

Grab a slice, and ask me whatever you want. Taxes, schools, roads, housing. No script, no canned answers. I'm Frank Casella, and I'm running for Maine House District 21. I'd like to earn your vote by listening first.

Pizza's hot. Come say hi.

Come meet me this Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 6 PM at 76 Main Street. It's free and open to everyone.

Food will be provided, so you don't have to worry about dinner. Stop by, grab a bite, ask me questions, and tell me what matters to you.

I was originally planning to host this at the library, but I wanted to provide food so there's one less thing for everyone to worry about, and a library wasn't going to work for that. I asked a restaurant, but they understandably don't want to get involved in anything political. This space is the same one the city council candidates used, and it fits the bill. It's downtown, so if you don't feel like driving or don't drive, you can walk.

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

I could have stayed quiet, complained on the internet, and changed nothing. I wasn't willing to do that.

We have just over two weeks until the election. No matter the outcome, I'll be glad it's over. Running for office is a lot more stressful than I expected.

I get why people want to hold Washington accountable. Things are a train wreck. But let's not sacrifice Maine because of it. We need to hold Augusta accountable too. One party has run Augusta for too long, and it shows. Drug use and homelessness haven't been properly addressed. Housing costs keep climbing. Our kids aren't reading or doing math at grade level. Maine's tax burden is in the top five in the nation.

That's not how life should be. We can fix it, but only if we hold the people who put us in this situation accountable.

Vote November 3rd for change in District 21.

Having insurance and having access to healthcare are not the same thing. You can carry the card in your wallet and still wait months for an appointment, drive an hour to find a specialist, or skip the visit because of the bill.

Some of the comments turned into red team vs. blue team. Doctors only do what Republicans tell them. Doctors only do what Democrats tell them. Neither is true, and neither fixes anything.

Here's where I'll plant a flag. Government intervention is one of the main reasons healthcare looks the way it does. Layers of rules, mandates, and middlemen sit between you and your doctor, and every layer adds cost.

If we can agree on that much, we can ask better questions. What can we strip out? What gets a patient in the door faster, for less?

I'd rather solve that than win a comment thread. What's one thing that got in the way of you getting care?

I'm never not surprised when someone recognizes me on the street.

Today I was headed to lunch with the family after some campaigning when I heard my name called. It was a guy I know disagrees with me on almost everything, and he has a reputation for being hyperbolic. We had a genuinely cordial conversation anyway.

I started this political adventure as an anonymous internet complainer. Then I realized I wasn't the only one fed up with the direction of things, so I attached my name to it. Complaining without action accomplishes exactly zero. I never expected to be a politician, but here I am.

We'd all be better off if people stopped believing the other side is evil and started seeing individuals and their concerns. We aren't that different. We all see the problems facing Maine. So what's one issue you think we all could agree on? Let's find solutions that works for all of us.

I recorded this the day after the debate, so yes I know it's being posted two days after.

Who else watched the gubernatorial debate last night? One issue that has become very pressing here in Maine is healthcare and access to healthcare. Having health insurance is not the same as having access to care. The whole system is broken, and it seems to get used only as a wedge issue to divide voters. It doesn't matter if you're insured when you can't get in to see anyone, whether that's from a lack of coverage or because a provider doesn't accept your plan.

Medical practices are businesses, whether you agree with that model or not. They have overhead that has to be covered: utilities, taxes, staff, supplies, to name a few. That's true of a small private practice, a large healthcare group, or a state-run facility. Things cost money.

Then there's personnel. Are we replacing and bringing in healthcare professionals at the rate we need? The older ones are retiring, and recent graduates aren't going to want to move to a state where things are significantly more expensive.

All of these issues need to be addressed if we want to actually fix healthcare instead of slapping a bandaid over the wound.
