INFORMATION TO HELP Chemin-a-Haut Trail Run & Walk PARTICIPANTS HAVE THE BEST TIME AT THE EVENT!
This is the 10th annual Chemin-A-Haut Trail Run and Walk. Since MITA began without any experience in hosting an event such as this, the organization is quite proud of how far we have come. The Trail Run is now one of the best in Louisiana. We are committed to hosting a fun event at beautiful Chemin-A-Haut State Park.
Below is information that we believe will help your visit to Chemin-A-Haut State Park be more enjoyable.
1. Chemin-A-Haut State Park – Louisiana State Parks Representative, Eric Calvalino, will be at the event to provide assistance and information. He can be reached at (318) 243-7859 or [email protected].
2. Hash Tag - To help make this event grow with improvements each year, please help promote the event by hash tagging on Facebook and insert your pictures at runsignup.com.
3. Gate Fee - Unless you want to stop at the Chemin-A-Haut entrance gate to get a free map or information, there is no need to stop as your gate fee has been taken care of by MITA.
4. Parking – As you enter the Lodge area, the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Auxiliary will welcome and direct you to the parking area.
5. Check-In & Registration - Once you are parked, please come to the Lodge where pre-registered participants can check-in and those that have not registered can register. Bibs for the runners will be in the give-away bags. A MITA representative will be there to accept cards.
6. Variety of Grilled Items/Sweets - If you enjoy food cooked on a grill, remember to bring a little money. The Optimist Club of Bastrop, LA will be grilling near the Chemin-A-Haut Lodge. They will be selling sausage biscuits, parfaits, muffins, fruit medley, juice, sodas, and water.
7. Event Changes - Please notify MITA if you change from walking to running or the opposite.
8. Restrooms - Restrooms are located in the Lodge which is on the circle drive where pre-registered participants check-in and late registration is held.
9. Kayaking, Trail Biking - Want to kayak or trail bike? You can kayak on Chemin-A-Haut Creek or you can kayak on Slough Lake. Kayak and canoe rentals are available at Chemin-A-Haut. Simply call Chemin-A-Haut (318) 283-0812 for more information on the trails or the kayaks. Ask about the “Castle Tree.”
10. Proceeds - Funds raised from the Chemin-A-Haut Trail Run and Walk are used towards MITA’s projects to improve the quality of life in Morehouse Parish. MITA’s most recent project was the demolition of an unsafe and vacant house on a Bastrop main corridor. Groundbreaking for the new Bastrop campus of Louisiana Delta Community College is scheduled for November 16. MITA has been very instrumental in making that extremely needed project possible. On-going MITA projects are at Chemin-A-Haut State Park (signage, maps, a billboard). Other completed projects include a kids pier at Bussey Brake, fencing for the Morehouse Animal Shelter, various projects at the Rose Theatre, and tinted windows and updated restrooms at the Morehouse Memorial Airport. Improving the horseback riding trails at Chemin-A-Haut State Park is a future project of MITA.
11. Cabins & RV Spots - Chemin-A-Haut State Park has cabins and RV spots available to rent if you would like to stay overnight. For more information on the cabins or to reserve a RV spot or a cabin, go to https://reservations.gooutdoorslouisiana.com.
12. Emergency Care - Should you need emergency care, please call 911. A Pafford ambulance will be parked beside the Lodge for first aid.
13. Litterfree - Thank you for leaving Chemin-A-Haut State Park litterfree.
14. Live Music – At approximately 8:30 a.m., live music by Homegrown will begin. The musicians are quite good and call Morehouse Parish “home.”
