If you have a concern involving a contractor or construction project, providing clear information at the beginning helps LSLBC understand what happened and identify the person or company involved.
When filing your complaint, be prepared to tell us:
โข Who you hired or agreed with to perform the work
โข The person and/or company name you dealt with
โข What name appears on your contract, proposal, estimate, invoice or receipt
โข Who you paid or made payments payable to
โข The address and type of project
โข The approximate contract or project amount
โข When the work began
โข A brief explanation of what happened
โข Whether law enforcement or an insurance company is involved, if applicable
If you have them, keep your contract, proposal, estimates, invoices, receipts, proof of payment and relevant communications available. These documents can help identify the responsible parties and assist with review of the complaint.
Not sure whether the individual, the company, or both should be named in your complaint? Thatโs okay. Give us the information you have about who you dealt with, who was paid and whose name appears on your paperwork.
You do not need to know a contractorโs license number before filing a complaint.
And you do not need to have every piece of information before contacting LSLBC. Do not delay filing simply because something is missing.
The more clearly we understand who was involved, what work was agreed to, what happened and how much the project involved, the better we can determine the appropriate next step.
