Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council LYAC is made up of 31 high school students to represent the voices of young people across the state.

Members of the council are selected from a wide pool of applicants from around the state who display a strong interest in civic involvement. The twenty-one member body includes two student members selected from each of the six congressional districts and nine at-large members. Applicants must be between the age of fourteen and nineteen and enrolled in a public or private high school, a home school, or participating in a GED skills program during the school year in which the applicant will be serving as a member if selected.

Just wrapped up the first meeting of the K12 Student Success Pathways Task Force. Rick Edmonds for Congress said that the “stars are aligned” for students to enter the workforce and we could not agree more! LYAC is grateful to be included in the conversation and excited about what the task force will achieve! ✨

Congratulations to LYAC members Owen Este and John Parker on their outstanding achievements at Louisiana Boys State!

Out of more than 225 participants, only seven students were elected as statewide officers. Owen was elected Secretary of State, and John was elected Commissioner of Insurance.

LYAC proud to see these student leaders representing both their schools and LYAC through their commitment to leadership and public service. Congratulations to both on this incredible accomplishment!
