FDNY Incident Management Team

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Incident Management Team conducted our Annual Situational Awareness Drill on April 22, 2026, at the FDNY Training Academy. The exercise included participation from distinguished guest speakers from the US Forest Service as well as First Deputy Commissioner Daniel Flynn and FDNY Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods. This year’s drill also marked the formal transfer of command from outgoing Incident Commander Richard DePrima to incoming Incident Commander Michael Burke, ensuring continued leadership and operational readiness.

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) IMT recently hosted the L950: All-Hazards Position Specific Incident Commander course, providing members and partner agencies with a comprehensive foundation in the duties required to lead an All-Hazards Incident Management Team.

Through scenario-driven simulations and rigorous analysis, participants honed the technical skills necessary to manage complex, multi-hazard incidents within the National Response Framework. Not only do trainings like this increase the overall readiness of our team, but working alongside members of the New York State IMT and United States Coast Guard also strengthens our entire region and helps forge relationships that prove vital during real-world incidents.

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Incident Management Team remains fully engaged in recovery operations on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. As storm recovery operations continue, early notification from the weather service indicates a storm this week could bring heavy rainfall, impacting the island and creating further flooding. The team adjusted operations to incorporate storm preparation and preparedness. Some units were diverted from debris removal to ensure that critical waterways were cleared and unobstructed. Preparedness remains a top priority as this threatening weather system approaches.

On Sunday, March 29, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Incident Management Team (IMT) officially integrated with the Honolulu IMT to support critical recovery operations following recent flooding. Working alongside the Hawaii National Guard and various local agencies, the team immediately began managing large-scale debris removal, including dredging the Kaukonahua Stream and sorting materials at Central Oahu Regional Park. Ongoing operations are also focused on clearing mud accumulations left behind by receding floodwaters. The FDNY IMT remains committed to assisting our partners in Oahu as they navigate this complex recovery process.

This morning, 14 members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Incident Management Team (IMT) departed New York City for Oahu, Hawaii. In the wake of two consecutive, record-breaking Kona Low storms, the islands are facing significant damage and widespread flooding.

Our team is fully prepared to support the State of Hawaii, local agencies, and the affected communities during this challenging time.

After a period of shadowing and integration with California Interagency Incident Management Team 5, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Incident Management Team has officially assumed command of the Garnet Fire today.

This fire, which was started by a lightning strike, has burned approximately 59,844 acres in the U.S. Forest Service - Sierra National Forest in Fresno, California. Our team is committed to continuing the great work that has already been accomplished, and we extend our thanks to CAIIMT 5 for their guidance, which ensured a seamless transition of command.
