Exciting Changes Coming to Downtown Beaverton!

Downtown Beaverton is getting a vibrant, accessible makeover! Back in 2025, our community City of Beaverton Michigan was selected as one of just seven communities in Michigan to participate in the Walkability Action Institute (sponsored by MDOT and MDHHS). This initiative empowered us to assess our streets and partner with nationally recognized design firms to explore ways to make non-motorized movement—walking, biking, and rolling—safer and more accessible for everyone.

While these projects weren't originally scheduled for consideration until 2027, we seized an exciting opportunity to implement a portion of the proposed design this year, coordinating seamlessly with scheduled water main and service line work downtown. Implementing these changes now was not only efficient, but responsible—passing up this timing would have meant tearing up brand-new concrete and asphalt just a year or two after it was laid, which would not have been an option.

While change always brings out strong opinions, our leadership and community leaned heavily on the advice and recommendations of industry-renowned professionals throughout the planning and implementation process.

What’s New in Our Core Downtown?

Flush Street Design: By removing traditional curbs, our downtown is now significantly more accessible for all mobility types—whether you walk, use a wheelchair, walker, or cane, or are pushing a stroller.

Widened Sidewalks & Protected Amenity Zones: These expanded spaces open up fantastic new possibilities for outdoor dining, pop-up markets, sidewalk sales, outdoor displays, live entertainment, and community festivals.

Calmer, Safer Traffic: Widened sidewalks naturally create a narrower street, intentionally encouraging slower, calmer two-way vehicle traffic to keep everyone safe.

Ready for the Holidays!

Work is moving fast, and we are on pace to have everything cleaned up and open just in time for the annual Beaverton Area Business Association Holiday Hunt at the end of November!

We look forward to having you come downtown and check out these wonderful new enhancements for yourself in the near future. See you downtown!

We love seeing projects come to life that encourage people to walk, bike, and roll safely through our community—giving everyone more opportunities to enjoy the beauty of Beaverton, visit our local businesses, and create lasting memories along the way.

Projects like this are about more than sidewalks and trails—they’re about connecting people, places, and our community.

And if you love this, you’ll be excited to know there’s more to come! More projects focused on walkability, connectivity, recreation, and creating great community spaces are already in the pipeline. ❤️

They say when one door closes, another opens... Well, in our case, when one street opens, another one closes!

While we’re all breathing a collective sigh of relief that Ross Street is officially reopened, please note that W. Brown St (between Ross and Pearson) will be closing for the next few weeks.

We understand that closures and detours can be inconvenient, but so is aging infrastructure! Thank you for your continued patience while the City of Beaverton Michigan completes this valuable work to benefit our entire community.

ALL BUSINESSES ON THIS BLOCK ARE OPEN!
Some shops have even opened accessible entrances from the rear alleyway to make visiting as smooth as possible. Beaverton is known for rallying together and supporting our local spots—let’s keep that tradition going and show these businesses some love through the construction!

Essential water main upgrades on W. Brown St are scheduled to begin soon. This project is a key investment in our municipal infrastructure, strengthening reliable services that support the residents and businesses who make our community great.

To keep work crews safe, W. Brown St will experience periodic full and partial closures to vehicle traffic this fall. Worker safety is our top priority, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while these necessary updates are underway.

Heading downtown? You’ll still find plenty of convenient parking! Beaverton offers ample public options, including on-street parking and off-street lots owned by the City of Beaverton Michigan and the Downtown Development Authority.

As a friendly reminder, please be respectful of privately owned parking lots downtown—these spaces are reserved specifically for the customers and employees of those businesses. Utilizing public street and lot parking helps keep things smooth and easy for everyone!

Our downtown businesses are fully open and ready to serve you. Please continue to shop, dine, and support local throughout this phase, and join us in looking forward to a refreshed downtown when work is completed later this fall!

Beaverton Community— what would YOU like to see here?

A beautiful commercial space just hit the market for lease right here in downtown Beaverton, and it has us wondering…

What type of business would you love to see move into this space?

Maybe it’s something we don’t have yet, or maybe it’s a business you’ve been wishing would come to town.

Let us know in the comments! 👇

Who knows… your idea might be exactly what someone else has been looking for a space to make their dream a reality.

Exciting news for Beaverton's Ross Lake Park visitors! 🚤☀️

We are thrilled to announce that a new Life Jacket Loaner Station is now set up at the Ross Lake Park boat launch area!

Location: Ross Lake Park – 358 Ross St, Beaverton, MI 48612

Thanks to an opportunity secured by the City of Beaverton through the Sea Tow Foundation, community members and visitors can borrow high-quality life jackets—free of charge.

How it works:

🦺 Borrow: Grab a life jacket in the size you need before heading out on the water.

🌊 Enjoy: Have a fun, safe day swimming, boating, or paddling on Ross Lake.

🔄 Return: Simply hang the life jacket back up on the stand as soon as you are done.

Please be mindful of the purpose of this station: these life jackets are shared community safety equipment intended to stay at the park. Always return them after use so they are ready for the next person—doing so ensures everyone stays safe and could truly save someone's life!
