Belgrade Fire & Rescue Association - Maine I can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to man than a fire engine. ~Kurt Vonnegut

We are a Municipal Fire & Rescue service that covers the town of Belgrade located in Kennebec county Maine. Belgrade is located just a few miles northwest of Maine's capital city, Augusta. Belgrade covers about sixty (59.7) square miles, with a large part of this area composed of lakes and streams. Our current population is estimated to be about 4,000 year-round citizens, and that number nearly doubles when non-residents arrive to spend the summer months here. There is a 18-hole golf course, just south of the Belgrade Lakes Village. We currently operate four Fire Engine/Pumpers, two Tanker/Tenders, one all-terrain unit, one brush unit, one boat and one light-duty rescue out of three stations. We provide emergency medical services with a permit to the Paramedic level. We also maintain a Junior Firefighter / EMT program which is registered with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC). We respond to multiple emergencies throughout the year, and provide mutual aid to numerous neighboring towns.

Have you ever wanted to make a real difference in your community? Here’s your chance!

The Belgrade Fire and Rescue Association is looking for community-minded residents who are interested in becoming Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and helping their neighbors when they need it most.

A new EMT course begins in January and runs through May, with classes held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the North Belgrade Community Center. The course is sponsored by Kennebec Valley Community College.

Let’s be honest — becoming an EMT takes time, commitment, studying, and hard work. But serving your community means showing up when someone is having one of the worst days of their life. It means making a difference, being part of a team, and knowing that the time you invest can have a lasting impact on someone else's life.

You don't need to be a medical professional to get started. You just need the willingness to learn, the commitment to see it through, and the desire to help others.

Our community depends on people willing to step up, and we would love to have you join our team!

Consider taking the first step toward becoming an EMT. Your neighbors may need you someday — and you could be the person who makes all the difference.

Interested? Sign up!

Be the help someone hopes is coming. Join Belgrade Fire and Rescue!

The Belgrade Fire and Rescue Association is honored and humbled to share that three names with ties to our department will be recognized at this year's Maine State Federation of Firefighters Memorial Service.

Please join us this Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Maine State Firefighters Memorial on the grounds of the Maine State Capitol in Augusta, as we join fellow firefighters and fire service agencies from across Maine to honor and remember those who have served.

Among those being recognized are three individuals with a special connection to Belgrade Fire and Rescue:

Firefighter/EMT David "Dave" Burton
Firefighter William "Bill" Avery
State Fire Marshal K-9 Harry, whose handler is Belgrade Firefighter/Paramedic Jeremy Damren.

Each holds a special place in our department's history, and it is a privilege to see them recognized as part of this year's memorial.

We encourage our members, families, friends, and community to join us as we come together with Maine's fire service to honor their memories, recognize their service, and celebrate the lasting impact they have made.

They will always be remembered and never forgotten.

The Belgrade Fire and Rescue Association is saddened to learn of the passing of retired Firefighter and EMT David “Dave” Burton earlier this week.

Dave proudly served the department from 1995–2005 and was named Rescue Member of the Year in 1999. His dedication to the department continued even after his retirement. Dave could still frequently be found at the station, usually under the very legitimate excuse of “checking in” on his son, Rescue Chief Travis Burton. We’re pretty sure Travis was never actually able to get away from being his son — even at the fire station.

Dave’s service, friendship, and connection to the department will be remembered by all of us.

Our thoughts are with Carolyn, Travis, Ryan, and the entire Burton family during this difficult time. Please keep the Burton family in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Dave. Your service to Belgrade Fire and Rescue will not be forgotten.

Belgrade Fire and Rescue extends our deepest sympathies on the loss of Harry. Because our very own Firefighter/Paramedic, Jeremy Damren, was Harry's handler, Harry was no stranger to our fire stations and community functions. He will be sorely missed.

Thank you for your service to the State of Maine and the country, Harry. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Jeremy and Thomas for the loss of not only a dedicated retired service dog, but a beloved member of the family.
