The Historical Society of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey
The Historical Society of Berkeley Heights is headquartered at the Littell-Lord Farmhouse and Museum in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.
The township of Berkeley Heights bought the 18-acre farmstead in 1975. The site consisted of the Farmhouse, dating from about 1760; a second Gothic-style house, known as the "Grandmother House," built in the mid-19th century; a barn, corral, spring house and other out-buildings; and a pond. Today in : In what would be a major development for radio and other electronics, the transistor was invented and successfully demonstrated by three scientists, William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain, at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey on December 23, 1947. The trio would win the 1956 Nobel Prize in for their discovery.
