Welcome to the Bobcat Trail!

Hike along the Big Sur River where you will pass by towering Coastal Redwoods, Western Sycamores, Big Leaf Maples and plenty of Oak trees.

The Bobcat trail + Coyote Flat Trail loop is 5.5 miles roundtrip.

You may see some wildlife out on the trail with plenty of birds soaring all around you. Catch some pretty sights of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range as well.

1st. Closure information:
"MONTEREY COUNTY — Travelers on Highway 1 in Big Sur will encounter a full overnight closure Thursday, October 8.

This full closure from 11 pm to 5 am will take place at Post Mile 44 .3 just north Nepenthe in Big Sur.

Crews will be repairing a drainage structure which crosses under both lanes of Highway 1.

Message signs will alert travelers in advance of the section that is fully closed. Please avoid the area and allow for extra time for your travels. This overnight closure is expected to be complete the morning of Friday, October 9."

2nd. Road Closure information:
MONTEREY COUNTY — Travelers on Highway 1 near Point Sur will encounter full overnight closures beginning Monday, October 12.

The full closure will take place from 11 pm to 5 am through Thursday, October 15 from Post Mile 54.2 to 55.6 just north of the Point Sur Lighthouse.

In addition, one-way traffic control will be in place overnight from 11pm to 5 am Friday, Oct. 16 with approximately 10-minute traffic delays.

Crews will be removing temporary sheet piles as part of the Point Sur embankment failure emergency repair that began in February after the failure of the embankment supporting the southbound lane.

During the day, and once the overnight work is complete, this area will return to one-way signalized traffic control.

Message signs will alert travelers in advance of the section that is fully closed. Please avoid the area and allow for extra time for your travels. Community members in the area can expect noise overnight associated with this closure.

We have all kinds of wildlife here in the Big Sur Sector ranging from Bobcats to Coyotes to Great Horned Owls and California Condors.

Remember to respect their space and to not intrude on them. Please observe from a distance.

🌅 Join us for another Sunset Stroll at AMSP this Sunday, October 4th at 6:00 pm as we will take a walk out to the beach to discuss the natural and cultural history of this beautiful park✨

Meet Ellis in the parking lot at Andrew Molera State Park at 6:00 pm. The walk will take about an hour going out to the beach and back, just over two miles round-trip. Bring your camera and binoculars to capture the great views that we will see.

🗓️ Join us on a guided walk down to Partington Cove on Saturday, October 3rd at 2:00 pm to learn all about the natural and cultural history of this beautiful location🌞

The trail is one mile round trip in length and is very steep so be prepared.

Meet Ellis at the top of the trail at 2:00 pm. There is limited parking alongside the road near the trail gate, which is 9 miles south of the Big Sur Station.

We recommend to caravan from the Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP parking lot, where there are restrooms to use before or after the walk.
