After nearly a year of frustrating delays, The Smithsonian National Museum of African Art has finally unveiled Here: Pride and Belonging in African Art. Curated by Kevin D. Dumouchelle and Serubiri Moses, the collection documents the thriving presence of q***r African artistry, history, and culture.

Here is the largest exhibition of African LGBTQ+ art to date, boasting nearly 60 artworks and 30 featured LGBTQ+ artists from across Africa and its diasporas The exhibit was originally scheduled to open in late May to align with WorldPride DC 2025 and the celebration’s 50th anniversary. One of the sweetest surprises of L.I.T. Weekend this year? …the ducks 🦆💛

Throughout the weekend, tiny ducks kept appearing all around the campsite — tucked away in random places waiting to be found. Some people found one. Some were gifted one. Either way, they brought smiles, laughter, conversation, and a little unexpected joy to the woods 🌲✨

The note attached said:
“If you found this, it was meant for you. Left with love. Thank you for showing up and being part of our community.”

And honestly? That perfectly describes what L.I.T. Weekend is becoming.
