As many of you know, Tammy, 43 years old, has suffered with a life-long asthma condition that unfortunately, over the last year, has progressed into what the doctors are saying is "end-stage". She's been a patient of one of the "best" pulmonary physicians in our area since she was a teenager. Unfortunately, after a fall in April of 2013, that resulted in Tammy having to have surgery on her nose, w

hich resulted in the intubation from the surgery causing significant complications for her, as her condition worsened afterward, she was referred over to the physicians at UAB - Birmingham. There, they have performed extensive testing in an effort to determine if there are any ways to treat, or to slow down the aggressiveness of her condition, to no avail, her only option being transplant. As of Oct. 2013, she has been placed on the transplant list, and we are awaiting the "the call". Tammy is currently having lots of difficulties maintaining a level of stability in her breathing, as we just finished an 8 day stay in the hospital. A pulmonary function test in Dec. 2013 showed she only had 44% use of her lungs, and again this Feb., the test showed she's lost another 15%, and is currently only at 30% use. The high doses of steroids over the years have also created a condition for her called Avascular Necrosis, which causes deterioration of the bones, particularly in the joints, (knees & elbows), that causes her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort as well. As a teenager, Tammy's asthma was what we thought was bad, but over the years, seemed to have improved, at least to the point of being somewhat "controlled". After high school, she attempted nursing school, as this was her life's ambition to become a nurse, not only to establish a good career for herself, but to have the opportunity to genuinely be able to care for others. Unfortunately, due to her condition at that time, was forced to abandon those dreams. The asthma became more controllable as years went by, and she was eventually able to return to school and complete her education and earn her degree, to become an RN, but only got to work for 4-5 years, until her asthma really progressed again, and as of June of 2013, she could no longer perform hardly any type of physical activity, and as a result, has had to forfeit her ambitions once again. Our home is another issue. It was Tammy's childhood home that her parents built in 1964, and resided in up until about four years ago, at which point we were forced to place her parents in care facilities, due to their health and well being. They could no longer reside in the house, as it had become a "hoarder home", much like you see on the TV show "HOARDERS". It took 9 solid months just to get the house back "habitable" again, and have been working on it diligently for the last 3 years. We've made good progress, but still got a long way to go. There are many issues still left to deal with, issues that if not addressed in time, Tammy will not be able to return home after her transplant, as it may be dangerous for her to be in the house. Many things, as you can imagine, will change in our lives after her transplant. Not only has Tammy's career been placed on hold, but mine as well, as I am committed to her 24/7, and to her recovery after the transplant, neither one of us able to work, medical expenses (not covered by our insurance), expenses on our home, and daily expense/cost of living have depleted our savings and finances. Finally, trying to eat and hoping to keep it in long enough to get some nutrients...
She's got Pneumonia, but clearing up..
Digestive issues viral, but starting to show some relief..
MRI on hip/spine/neck shows signs of "Bo Jackson Hip" (Avascular Necrosis) because of years of steroids, nothing can be done, so walking will always be painful and difficult...
Also, she has a cyst on her lower spine.. Waiting on Neurosurgeon to make rounds to talk about what (if anything) can be done..

I guess I owe apologies to many of y'all.., many of whom I (we) encounter from day to day, as I haven't been entirely honest in response to questions when asked how we are doing..(how's Tam doing)?, as to which I (we) generally reply, "ok, everything is good".. Well, that's not entirely so.. Her lungs seem ok, and her breathing seems ok, but everything else is crumbling, and she's been having quite a bit of trouble.., so much so, that we've been in contact with our people at UAB, and as of this afternoon, the doctors have decided that they want her back over there, and admitted back into the hospital.., so we are currently in the road headed there... We knew we weren't out of the woods, and we don't know what's next, but we do know there is a God who has a plan that will work itself out in his timing...
Again, I apologize for not being entirely honest, but please keep us lifted in your prayers as we continue this journey...

So, our birthdays are only a week apart, Tam's tomorrow, on the 28th, and mine on Sept. 3, but what happened last year on Sept. 2, was absolutely a miracle from God, as it was the day she got her new lungs...
What a birthday gift!
A birthday gift 5 days late for her, but a day early for me!
Due to the circumstances, a formal celebration was impossible, but this time around, we're at the 1 year anniversary mark, and she's doing good, so we will celebrate!
The past few days have been emotional ones, and I'm certain the next few will be too..
Thank you to all who have kept us lifted up in your thoughts and in your prayers, and for your help and support for our family, and we ask that you still keep us in prayer as we continue this struggle, and Tam continues to progress!

And again, just couldn't stand not checking in at headquarters this week..😬
Last Monday's PFT numbers dropped, not necessarily a terrible thing, but enough so to be cautious about, so, the scheduled bronc for later in June got bumped up to today, so here we go..
At last check, labs indicate the antibody is still gone, but docs want the biopsy a little earlier than scheduled, just to check to be safe..
She's been doing good, but not out of the woods yet, so please, continue to keep us in your prayers!

Y'all know the antibody I told y'all about that she'd developed, the one that would fight her new lungs, and throw her into rejection?
Well.., they can't find it...
It's not showing up any more...
It's just gone, and they don't understand how...
Oh, but we understand it!
Don't tell me about a God that can't, because, you see, we know the God that can!
Glory be to God!

On a side note: The only other way, (medically), to lose that antibody, is through treatment (plasmapheresis)...
We haven't been through any treatment...
