Hey Shelby County! It’s Jay Welborn with your Runoff Rundown. Today’s topic is:
3. What Does a District Judge Actually Do All Day?
“People ask me all the time—what does a district judge actually do all day?
The answer is… a little bit of everything.
District court is one of the busiest courts in Alabama because it touches everyday life. A district judge may handle traffic court in the morning, juvenile matters after lunch, criminal dockets in the afternoon, and emergency hearings in between.
You’re making decisions that affect families, victims, law enforcement, businesses, and children—sometimes every few minutes.
District judges handle issues like:
• traffic tickets
• misdemeanors
• small claims and collections
• evictions
Setting bonds in criminal cases
• juvenile cases
• child support of u***d parents
• first appearances after arrests
and many other matters that directly impact our community.
And behind every case file is a real person having one of the hardest or most stressful days of their life.
That’s why preparation, patience, work ethic, and judicial temperament matter so much in district court.
This isn’t a job where you clock in and coast. You have to be ready every single day.
I’m Jarred “Jay” Welborn, your Republican candidate for District Judge and this has been your Runoff Rundown. I’d humbly ask for your vote on June 16.

Hey Shelby County! It’s Jay Welborn with your Runoff Rundown. Today’s topic is:
What Happens Before Court Even Starts?”
“Here’s a secret most people don’t realize…”
“A courtroom hearing usually starts LONG before anyone says, ‘All rise.
“Judges spend hours reading case files, reviewing evidence, studying motions, and preparing before court even begins.”
“Why? Because people deserve a judge who is PREPARED.”
“A judge can’t just walk into court and wing it. Every case involves laws, facts, procedures, and people’s lives.”
“And many times, judges are balancing packed dockets while still trying to give every case the attention it deserves.”
“That preparation may not be flashy… nobody’s making Facebook reels or TikToks about reading 200 pages of motions at night…”
“…well, maybe now I am. But it’s for the sake of wducating you, the voters.
“But preparation matters because when people come to court, they deserve fairness, efficiency, and someone who has done the work.”

Hey Shelby County! It’s Jay Welborn with your Runoff Rundown. Today’s topic is:
What Is the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act?”
“Today’s Runoff Rundown is about something incredibly important for military families — the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, also called the SCRA.”
“This federal law helps protect active-duty servicemembers from being unfairly disadvantaged in court while they are serving our country.”
“So for example — if someone is deployed overseas, they may not be able to show up for a court hearing, respond to a lawsuit, or handle legal issues the same way a civilian can.”
“The law can pause or delay certain court proceedings, protect against default judgments, and provide safeguards involving leases, loans, and other legal obligations.”
“And courts take these protections VERY seriously.”
“Our servicemembers should not have to worry that they’re losing rights at home while defending our country abroad.”
“If you or someone you know is in the military and facing legal issues, it’s important to let the court know immediately because these protections may apply.”
If you’ve got questions about District Court or the runoff election, drop them in the comments!”

It's been a busy week for , Shelby County. We have been out knocking on doors, relocating signs, meeting with groups and encouraging anyone who voted (or didn't vote) in the primary to get back out and vote in the runoff on June 16! Tuesday was the Candidate Runoff Forum hosted by Shelby County Republican Party (Alabama). It was an honor to participate and get to hear the other statewide runoff candidates speak in front of a record standing room only crowd. Thank you to all the Team Welborn family that came out to support and everyone else who attended to hear directly from the candidates.
Wednesday and Thursday brought more moving and delivering signs, speaking and meeting with groups and voters, strategizing with volunteers for the runoff.
Friday was a full day, starting with my regular weekly coffee group. Then onto the City of Helena-Helena, Alabama for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. What a great cause with great people from the Helena, Alabama Police Department and the City of Helena. After the Helena leg, we caravaned over to Pelham Rec Center where we joined the Pelham, Alabama Police Department for the Pelham leg of the Torch Run. After running all morning, I was blessed to participate in a group that I have recently been invited to join. What a great group of people in the Business and Blessings group’s “monthly meeting of good people”. So great to see so many friends that are already a part of this network and also meet lots of new friends! We knocked on a few doors Fridy late afternoon and then attended The Pelham BEAT’s murder mystery dinner theater and watched the I Love Lizzie show! Thank you for such wonderful entertainment.
Saturday brought more knocking on doors, talking to voters and we called it of celebrating a long time friend’s birthday and admittance into the “half century club”!
We can't wait to see what blessings this next week holds for the Team Welborn family! See y'all out on the campaign trail!
