Oa has always been the headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps and the home of the Guardians of the Universe. For decades it was mostly shown as a barren world centered around the Guardians’ city and the Green Lantern Central Power Battery. In Green Lantern Corps #14, released after the DC K.O. event, a completely new map of Oa appears and it changes the planet in a huge way.

The story also shows Guy Gardner gaining a major power boost from the tournament for the Heart of Apokolips, which leads to him being worshipped on Oa as a powerful figure called the Allsight. The map reveals that Oa is no longer just the Green Lantern headquarters. After a version of John Stewart sacrifices himself to defeat the Starbreaker Corps and restore the emotional spectrum, every Lantern Corps relocates there.

All the power batteries are now on Oa, and the planet has grown into a real world with cities, geography, and different biomes where all the Lantern Corps now live together.

The Multiversity stands as Grant Morrison’s magnum opus, mapping out the entire DC multiverse across 52 different universes. The story connects heroes from all those worlds into one overarching narrative while still telling self contained stories in each issue. Issue 4, Pax Americana, uses Charlton Comics characters to explore modern politics while honoring the style of Watchmen.

Issue 8, Ultra Comics, goes even further by making the reader part of the conflict and even asking you not to read the book right on its cover. The Multiversity works because it celebrates the comic book medium itself. It pays tribute to different eras of superhero storytelling not just through plot, but through structure and form.

DC needs a series to explore Earth-1985, and it should go the X-Men '97 route. Link in comments.
