Sometimes we get a call about the need for an “emergency” bike. We had that call this week and delivered today. Then before getting home, we received the call again! The 2nd delivery pic is below. It’s always a joy to deliver some !

Shout out to one of our favorite community partners the Bike Lady, who just dropped off a donation. Thanks to her generosity, a kinship teen in need of summer transportation now has a brand new bike.

On this longest night of the year, we are incredibly grateful to the maintenance crew at Pickaway Correctional Institution who are sharing their light! They volunteered to assemble 75 bikes over the last week. Twenty bikes stayed in Pickaway County and 55 bikes found their way to kids in care in Hamilton County. All were adult-sized bikes for teens. Those two wheels equal transportation, opportunity, and a bright light during the darkest time of all those teens’ young lives.

One of the last pics is of a teen in Cincinnati. He'd never had a bike before. The worker said he was so excited about it, jumped on it and rode it right away! The memory of his first new bike will be a lifelong positive memory because we all remember our first bike.

And that is one reason we’ve done this since 2008 and 13,000 times over. Lives change for the better one bike at a time. One simple bike. Shine on, peeps!

Besides Fayette County today (other post), we dropped off 68 bikes in two trips to Franklin County Children Services, for the first time in few years. After nearly 13,000 bikes across Ohio’s foster care system the last 16 years, most to Franklin County, you’d think it would get old. Not a bit. Wow, did it feel good!

Covid almost did us in. But we are slowly coming back, peeps. This year it’s not the wild excitement of hundreds of bikes for hundreds of kids across tens of Ohio counties that we’ve done before. Instead, it is the slow roll of resurrecting a mission that matters. No TV news crews. No Columbus Dispatch. No NPR. No prison pelotons quite yet. Just a mom, a UHaul, money from , and a positive lifelong childhood memory for 68 kids at FCCS.

For those 68 kids and teens, it matters. Bikes matter. Freedom, independence, and hope matters. Thanks . Let’s keep rolling together!

For the first time in a LONG time, bikes are on the move! Thanks to First Presbyterian Church of Washington Courthouse, 27 bikes of all sizes rolled into Children Services of Fayette County this morning, and will soon roll out to all their kids in care!

Bike your vote, peeps. Early voting today in Franklin County, Sunday, 1700 Morse Road, 1pm to 5pm. Check your county hours and go VOTE!

Ten years ago, called and said, "The bikes need bows. I'll make them." Sara and friends, along with a few others, have made a bow for every single one of the 13,000 bikes we've since given away. Outstanding! Sara has also been our treasurer for almost as long. Honestly, there is no Bike Lady without Sara. Today was her birthday. She spent the morning with me doing Bike Lady banking. Rock on Super Sara! Happy CAKE DAY! We love, adore, and thank you. You've given freedom and opportunity to thousands, all wrapped up in a perfect bow!

They will refurbish and tune up, and then distribute the bikes to central Ohio kids, teens, and adults in desperate need. Here at Bike Lady we are in total solidarity with Ukraine. We are boycotting those companies not pulling out of Russia like Pepsi and Coke, and all their various brands. We cry over the death and devastation. We despise bullies, meglomaniacs, and narcissists. We stand for democracy, kindness, and compassion. We know this is a global watershed moment.
