Good evening, I have just been informed by a close friend, and then by the media that our President, Donald Trump, has, without the approval of congress, bombed several sites in Iran. This is absolutely horrendous, and I am sure I echo the sentiments of many of my fellow Americans that this is not what we want. That we, even many of those who sadly did vote for Trump, did not want a war. We did not want to enter World War III.
Landon Hussey Gloucester Township
Hello, my name is Landon Hussey, a Gloucester Township native, politician, businessman and couturier.
Good morning, today is June 14th, 2025. Today is a day which we as Americans will remember for the rest of our lives. Today is, among many things, the 250th birthday of our United States army, and of the adoption of our flag. But today is something much more than that, today is a day where we as Americans will decide whether we are a Democratic society, a society who’s government is “Of the People, For the People, By the People.” Or if we are a people who are complicit, complicit to the onset of authoritarianism, and ultimately Fascism. Today, I want to put it on the record that this country is not a dictatorship, it is a democracy! And we must stand strong against President Donald Trump, who is holding a military parade, in large part to celebrate his birthday. This is a complete unprecedented event, and a decision that is unbecoming of the leader of the free world. Today, I call all of you who disagree, whether mildly or strongly with the actions of Donald Trump to today, and forevermore celebrate No Kings Day, a day to both celebrate the lack of a King, and prevent the death of government Of the People, For the People, By the People!
Thank you,
And long live our Sacred Democracy!
Good morning, I regret to inform you all that I am officially dropping out of the 2025 Gloucester Township Mayoral run, and I am officially endorsing Incumbent Mayor David Mayer.
However, this does not mean that I have given up on politics, both local, state, and beyond. I will keep you all updated on my plans for the future when the time comes!
Today, I wanted to talk about why I am so passionate about Gloucester Township.
As you know, my name is Landon Hussey, though this will be changed in due time to Landon Dumonte. However, neither of these names are indicative of my ties to Gloucester Township, and specifically, Blackwood.
I am, by blood, a McCann. The McCanns are an old Blackwood family who has lived here for generations upon generations. And back in the day, we were one of the most prominent business families here in Blackwood. We were amongst the Chews and Pines, who owned the old lumber yard, and the recently closed Chew’s florist. My family, the McCanns, owned the McCann funeral home, which is still around as the Earle funeral home, which Charles (Chick) McCanns, who started the funeral home, sold to his apprentice. Aditionally, Charles was known for being quite frugal, though incredibly generous. He was also a partner in a livery company, an investor in the Bank of New Jersey, and held the mortgages of many of the homes of the town. He was no doubt a talented businessman, and is someone I look up to, despite the fact that I was never fortunate enough to meet him.

And although the McCanns are no longer as well know, we are still here! My great grandparents, Walter and Barbara McCann, and some other relatives still live here in Blackwood.
Additionally, Blackwood is the town I have grown up in. I lived in the Gloucester township part of magnolia till I was 5, then moved to Blackwood. However, I spent much of my childhood practically living with my grandparents, who live in the Blackwood Estates. And have been since walking around Blackwood since before I could even walk. I grew up going to Santini’s, (the best pizza on this side of the Atlantic btw), and going to Meadow’s Diner, and feeding the ducks and geese of the Blackwood Lake bread and crackers. Overall, Blackwood is my hometown, and it has played an unimaginably important role in my childhood and life.
Today, I wanted to go even more in depth into some of the goals I have for Gloucester Township. This will be in two parts at least, and this is part 1. The next parts should come out in the following days.
1. I would like to do an evaluation of our tax, fine, and traffic ticket yearly revenue. Identify where all of those funds are going. And redirect any funds going to non-helpful places and projects to go to more helpful places and projects. These would be helping to improve our schools, the creation of a homeless shelter within our township, the repairing of our sidewalks (especially on the Black Horse Pike), building of new sidewalks and crosswalks, and other miscellaneous projects to help improve our township.
2. Once all of our funds are redirected or reaffirmed in their locations, I would look towards the hopefull possibility of either capping, or lowing the taxes in our township. This would be to further help the people of our great township be able to keep more of their hard earned money, or at least, be certain that it is going to causes which still benefit them and their fellow citizens of Gloucester Township.
3. Next, our goal will be to, if the global political climate seems fitting, build several nuclear bunkers throughout the township so that, in the case of a war which we are involved in, we could all feel a bit safer knowing that in that case, we will all have somewhere safe to go. And although quite grim of a goal, I believe that it is the duty of leaders to protect their constituents, and this is simply an unfortunate, but possibly necessary extension of that.
4. Now to the less grim goals, my goal will be to personally help fund the beautifying and development of our downtown, and our Blackwood Lake. This would include mainly privately funded developments, by me and others, to not draw from the taxes of our citizens, mixed with an amount of public development. Though all non-residential private development would need to be, at least in part, publicly accessible and free. More specifically, this would include rebuilding many of the original buildings of Downtown Blackwood, in order to keep and enhance its charm, and build additional buildings, which would be designed in order to be cohesive with the style of Blackwood. Additionally, this would include the draining, cleaning, dredging, and developing of the Blackwood Lake, in order to make it a publicly accessible lake, which could be used for swimming, fishing, boating, and vacationing to.
5. Moving on, it would also be my goal to ensure the safety and security of the LGBTQ+ students of our township and in our public schools. This would be in the case of persecution by the current presidential administration. Furthermore, it would also be my goal to help to personally fund the schools in part, and for LGBTQ+ programs in and out of school if government funding is pulled. And I want everyone to know, I will fight to the very end to ensure our schools will have adequate funding, and to ensure that all Q***r students and people will have a safe place within our township, no matter what our current administration may try to do.
My beliefs, values, and goals for Gloucester Township.
Beliefs and values:
I am a humanist
I am a feminist
I am a queerist
I will work with anyone who will work with me
I am a liberal
I value honesty and transparency
I believe that if a politician is to make their life better, then they should make the lives of their constituents better too. It must go both ways!
I believe that a politician should be approachable and willing to talk to their constituents.
I believe that the duty of a politician is to represent their constituents, and to make their lives better to the best of their abilities.
Goals for Gloucester Township:
As Mayor of Gloucester Township, my goals would be to at least cap tax levels, and if possible lower them to a much more reasonable level, (this would be if our public projects do not need the current amount of taxes brought in). To work with all of my peers who are willing to work with me. To work to dismantle the mentality of prioritizing oneself, without prioritizing others. To be open and honest with all of my constituents about my goals and plans. To make the process of obtaining permits, getting inspections, and rezoning a commercial property easier. To support the development of our downtown into in beautiful and thriving center of our great town. To keep our town’s uniqueness, and prevent the futher building of cookie cutter developments. To be generous to all citizens of Gloucester Township. To provide housing to all of our homeless citizens. To generate new jobs for our citizens through private and public development. And above all, to make the lives of all citizens of our great Gloucester Township better. Thank you for your time.
