"By showing the image of a named elected official as he warned of violence, Piker put a target on the backs of Sen. Moss, Jewish candidates and officeholders, and American Jews alike. Blaming Jews for the antisemitism directed at them is itself antisemitism."

Piker: ‘I don’t know how people don’t recognize how dangerous this predicament is, how dangerous this is for Jews’

The anti-Muslim demonstration in Dearborn organized by Jake Lang this week is another reminder of the dangers of extremism and bigotry. The hateful rhetoric on display has no place in our community and stands in opposition to the values of respect, dignity, and religious freedom.

We at AJC stand with our Muslim partners, friends, and neighbors and condemn the targeting of communities because of their faith or identity.

AJC is on record speaking out about Jake Lang's hateful rhetoric against Jews and Muslims, and will continue to combat all forms of hate and extremism.

Applications are now open for the AJC Detroit 2026-27 Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) cohort. LFT is AJC's a transformative program for high schoolers that empowers Jewish teens to stand up against antisemitism, become community leaders, and advocate for the Jewish people and Israel.
Students will meet once a month from November through May and travel to Washington, D.C. for a summit with teens from around the country to lobby on Capitol Hill.

We stand with the congregation of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield and the broader Detroit Jewish community.

We are grateful to the law enforcement officers and first responders who are on the scene, working to protect and support everyone in the area.

We continue to actively monitor the situation.

If a Jewish teen is afraid to wear a Star of David, it isn’t just personal, it’s a red flag for all of us.

In her Detroit News op-ed, Amy Sapeika, AJC - Detroit Community Director, shares her son’s fear of wearing a Jewish star in public. His experience reflects a much larger reality highlighted in AJC’s newly released State of Antisemitism in America 2025 Report.

The numbers are alarming:
9 in 10 American Jews feel less safe following last year’s three violent attacks on Jews
55% have changed their behavior out of fear of antisemitism
