🚧 Public Works Update: Tackling Sinkholes Across Bordentown City!

Over the past eight months, our Public Works team has repaired seven sinkholes across five streets, many in just the last month!

📍 Lucas Drive: 1
📍 Elizabeth Street: 3
📍 Mary Street: 1
📍 Third Street: 1
📍 Railroad Avenue: 1

Sinkholes often form when water washes away soil beneath our roads, sometimes due to aging underground infrastructure.

Our team isn’t just patching the pavement. They’re identifying and repairing the underlying problems to help prevent sinkholes from returning.

By catching these issues early and using the skills and expertise of our in-house Public Works team, we’re addressing problems at their source, protecting taxpayer dollars, and keeping our streets safe.

A big thank you to our Public Works team for their hard work!

If you notice sinking pavement or a potential sinkhole, please report it to the City or email me directly at [email protected]. Catching these issues early makes all the difference!

Excited to start these! I’m always looking for more ways to connect with residents, hear what’s on your mind, and talk about what’s happening in our city. Hope to see you at Mayor’s Hours or over coffee!

For years, the sinkhole at Third and Railroad would get patched, and then come back.

Last week, we stopped patching it and dug it up to find out why.

Our Public Works team found that a connection between two underground pipes had completely rotted away. Every time water moved through, soil was washing away with it and the ground above was sinking.

Now we knew what was causing it, and we could actually fix it.

The team replaced the rotted connection, filled everything back in, and restored the street. And with asphalt left over, they headed over to Mary Street and took care of a pretty sizable pothole there too.

I love seeing work like this get done. It is not flashy, and most people will drive over this spot without ever knowing what was underneath it. But for the neighbors who have watched the same sinkhole come back for years, it matters.

There are lots of little things like this throughout our City, and we are going to keep working our way through them.

Really proud of our Public Works team!

🌳 With the weather cooling down, tree trimming season is here!

Our Public Works team, with help from the Shade Tree Committee, is trimming trees and high branches along Crosswicks today, with work continuing throughout the fall and winter.

See a City tree that needs attention? Send the location to [email protected] so we can add it to the list! 🌳🍂

Signed, sealed, delivered! 🛑

The new four way stop at Burlington Street and Farnsworth Avenue is officially in place!

This has been a dangerous intersection and a concern in our community for a long time. Getting this four way stop in place is a big step toward making it safer for everyone who drives, walks, and bikes through this area.

As everyone gets used to the new traffic pattern, please be extra alert. All four directions now have a stop sign, and all drivers must come to a full stop. 🛑

A huge thank you to our Public Works for installing the new signs! 👏

We’re not waiting. We’re getting it done. 💪

Today, our Public Works team started restoring some of the worst curbs in the city on Thompson Street.

By doing this work in house, we’re putting the skills of our Public Works team to work, stretching our dollars further and getting more done across the city.

We know there’s a lot that needs attention across our city, and we’re going to keep finding smart ways to make progress.

A huge thank you to our Public Works team for all they do! 👏

Today is an exciting day for Bordentown City as work officially begins at Chief Francis Lee Park!

Chief Francis Lee made history as Bordentown City’s first Black Chief of Police, and this project is about honoring his legacy while creating a beautiful space for our community to gather, reflect, and enjoy for generations to come.

This first phase includes beautiful benches with commemorative brick pavers, a native garden, the removal of a dying tree, and a memorial with a plaque celebrating Chief Lee’s remarkable life and service.

This is just the beginning. In the coming months, we also hope to demolish the abandoned home behind the park, which will allow us to expand the open green space and create an even more welcoming place for neighbors, families, and visitors.

I’m so excited to see this project finally getting underway. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this vision a reality. Stay tuned as this special space continues to come to life!
