Congratulations to Whitney Demetrius, HLC’s director of the Office of Fair Housing, on receiving the Citizens' Housing and Planning Association, Inc. CHAPA Policy Leadership Award at last night’s annual dinner.
As the first director of the office created by Gov. Maura Healey when she signed the Affordable Homes Act, Whitney is leading critical work to advance fair housing, expand opportunity and build stronger communities across Massachusetts.
Well deserved, Whitney!
Secretary Matias was on the road in Holyoke last week to tour new affordable homes for sale and to grant $1 million to organizations that fight housing discrimination statewide.
At South Holyoke Homes, a brand new neighborhood is being built on previously vacant city-owned lots surrounding Carlos Vega Park. Thank to city and state investment, the neighborhood will soon have 20 homes for purchase and 40 new apartments when completed.
At the Fair Housing and Civil Rights Conference, the Secretary awarded the first ever grants from the Fair Housing Trust Fund to 7 anti-discrimination organizations serving all corners of Massachusetts. As the federal government undermines fair housing rules and funding, the Healey-Driscoll Administration is expanding the state's fair housing resources through the Office of Fair Housing at HLC.
