More Than Two Dozen Massachusetts State Senators Call on Mass General Brigham to Reach Fair Agreements with Nurses and Clinicians

“Today, more than two dozen members of the Massachusetts State Senate called on Mass General Brigham to engage in meaningful negotiations with Brigham and Women’s Hospital nurses and MGB Home Care clinicians and reach fair contracts that respect caregivers and strengthen patient care across Massachusetts.

The Senators raised concerns about issues affecting patient care, safe caseloads, recruitment and retention, affordable healthcare for caregivers, and MGB’s responsibilities as one of the Commonwealth’s largest nonprofit healthcare systems”

“Under the agency’s new policy, released on Wednesday, the MBTA is again allowing the service’s population of elderly users and people with disabilities to keep their belongings inside RIDE trunks and some foldable carts.

The T has said it also plans to install luggage racks in RIDE vans “soon,” and eventually give riders the option to indicate whether they are bringing luggage or a shopping cart when they book a trip to help “make sure there is enough space on the vehicle.”

Good work, Governor Healey! 💜 We are excited to see Governor Healey, today, announce $2.25 million in new proposed investments to strengthen postpartum care and maternal mental health across Massachusetts.

The landmark Maternal Health Law of 2024 codified universal postpartum home visiting into law, ensuring that every new parent in Massachusetts can have access to a free postpartum home visit. Now, Governor Healey is proposing $2 million to expand the Welcome Family program statewide and help make that promise a reality for families across the Commonwealth. The Governor is also proposing $250,000 to strengthen MCPAP for Moms and directing DPH to broaden screening for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders so we can identify concerns earlier and connect moms with care.

And the progress continues. Yesterday, DPH began accepting applications for temporary licensure for Certified Professional Midwives, implementing another important piece of the 2024 Maternal Health Law and expanding birthing options for Massachusetts families.

Thank you, Maura Healey, for continuing to invest in moms, babies, and families and for helping bring the vision of the Maternal Health Law to life.

What a beautiful first day! This morning, we welcomed students back to the Holland Elementary School, formerly known as UP Academy Holland, for a truly historic school year. After 12 long years of state receivership, the Holland is finally back where it belongs: with Boston Public Schools and its community.

Congratulations to the entire school community, especially the educators and staff whose hard work, dedication, and belief in this school and its young people helped bring us to this moment. Today marks a new chapter for the Holland, and I couldn’t be more excited for our students, families, and educators as they begin it together. Happy First Day! 💜📚

Sharing the latest update on the Blue Hill Avenue redesign. To be clear: sharing this update is not an endorsement. We encourage residents to review the updated plans and continue sharing their feedback as this process moves forward. Also, please see my op-ed in about the missing debate. We still need a long term conversation on the future of the Ave and that’s why I passed an amendment for $500,000 in the Senate to study all transit options along the Blue Hill Ave corridor, including potential connections between Nubian Square, Grove Hall, and Mattapan Square. The study will evaluate options including light rail, heavy rail, and other rapid transit alternatives, as well as potential routes, costs, funding opportunities, community impacts, and protections against displacement.

Mrs. Victoria Williams of Roxbury has transitioned and gone to join the ancestors. She was the Chair of the Ward 12 Democratic Committee and the former chief of the Boston Office of Civil Rights. She had an incredibly long career in public service and voting stewardship in our district and we are eternally grateful to have known her and learned from her.

She was a determined, brilliant, strong willed and compassionate woman who I have had the honor of knowing for decades. I’m deeply thankful for her wisdom and mentorship. Love and light to her family, our wider community and the members of Ward 12. As more information becomes available our office will share. May her memory be a blessing.

Governor Maura Healey signed the PROTECT Act into law today, marking the culmination of more than eight years of organizing, advocacy, and coalition-building. Today, the Commonwealth became home to the most comprehensive immigrant protection law in the country.

There are simply too many people to thank. This victory belongs to every organizer, advocate, faith leader, directly impacted family, and coalition that refused to give up and kept this work moving forward, year after year. So many partners in the work of protecting and uplifting our immigrant friends, families, and neighbors do this work without recognition. It was a proud moment to see so many of them together today celebrating this historic achievement.

Thank you to Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll for bringing us together to mark this milestone and for your leadership. As Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus, I am deeply grateful to every caucus member who poured their heart into this effort and to our dedicated Chairman, Andy X. Vargas, as well as the conferees from both chambers and our Senate President Senate President Karen E. Spilka for her leadership on this bill.

Governor Maura Healey Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll
