As we spend time with our families and friends on this Memorial Day, it’s important that we commemorate its significance and remember those who gave their lives for our country so we can live in FREEDOM. In every flag raising, we honor their courage and sacrifice. It was a pleasure to join the and my colleagues Kalman Yeger, this morning at the OLD GLORY LOOKOUT for their annual ceremony 🇺🇸🗽

🚨🪾🌳PSA: FALLEN TREES

We have received reports of several fallen trees within the district following a period of heavy rainfall. We are working with the NYC Emergency Management and New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to advocate for a timely response/removal.

Our office will remain in close contact with Parks and OEM. Please note that incidents should first be reported to 311 before trying to contact our office.

‼️👉If you see a fallen tree or other damage: report to 311 (https://portal.311.nyc.gov/report-problems/) so the appropriate city agency can respond, then contact our office.

An obscure bill passed by city council 17 years ago as an anti-graffiti measure would require storefronts to replace solid security gates with gates that are at least 70% transparent or face up to $1,250 in penalties starting this July 1st. Not only would this be extremely cumbersome financially for our small businesses, but would create a huge security & safety concern. That’s why I am a sponsor of bill that would repeal this ludicrous 2009 law and would not require businesses to replace the gates, unless they’re installing new gates. However, we need to repeal the 2009 bill altogether!

This is an ALL GIRLS Jewish school in my district. I’m all for prayer and free speech, but why do a bunch of GROWN MEN need to do this right outside of a school full of little Jewish girls??? Is not this what MOSQUES are for? Is this intentional? Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani any words of wisdom on why all of a sudden they’d feel compelled to do this?

Last week, and I visited the Jay Harama senior center to meet with over 100 seniors & discuss how we can continue to support the center. Jay Harama is doing an amazing job at making sure our seniors are leading healthy lives and staying active! Thank you and Rachel Lutsker for the invitation.

After we coordinated with DHS, Breaking Ground & NYPD, DOT installed a fence to prevent access to an area that was occupied by an entire CAMP with tents, needles, drugs and unsanitary conditions. The fence is a major obstacle in discouraging the re-establishment of encampments at that site, and if you are caught trespassing inside you will be arrested. However, of course, the unhoused individuals may and do move elsewhere. We must be honest about the root cause of the problem and understand that building fences is only a TEMPORARY solution and puts a bandaid on enormous quality of life & homelessness issues. Many of those unhoused who live in tents under a bridge have mental health conditions. If those are not addressed by involuntary commitment, real assistance to homeless, and strict enforcement, we will continue seeing the homeless population suffering, dying and living in third world conditions. And we will continue seeing our residents struggle with living around unsafe, unsanitary conditions. The homeless should live in a dignified way - with access to a shower, meals and medication. Not on our streets. New Yorkers should not have to hesitate walking their children to day care. Only can change this. Thank you for covering!
