Not a public page or point of contact for the Alamance County District Attorney's Office. Born and raised in Alamance County, I have been privileged to serve my home as a prosecutor for over 20 years, including as elected District Attorney since 2019. After graduating from Western high School in 1986, I attended N.C. State and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1990 and a Master’s degree in 1993. I then attended UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. As a second year law student, I began prosecuting cases here in Alamance County in early 1996. After graduation, I was sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney and served my home county for 18 years in that position. In 2015 I left the District Attorney's Office to practice law with the firm of Walker Bullard & Boone. My experience in private practice, along with my past experience as a prosecutor, provided me a more comprehensive perspective of our local criminal justice system, and with it a better understanding of how it may be improved. With the goal of making our court system better for all citizens, I ran for District Attorney. In 2018 I was elected District Attorney, and proudly continue to serve the people of my home county. As a prosecutor, I built a strong record of securing guilty verdicts against violent offenders. I prosecuted thousands of felony cases, and tried over 100 jury trials in local Alamance County Courts, obtaining over 30 jury verdicts for violent crimes such as Murder, Sexual Assaults, Armed Robbery, and Kidnapping. In the process, I formed enduring friendships and gained the trust of scores of local law enforcement officers with whom I've worked to prosecute these cases. My experience has been especially important in serving those whom crime has touched personally. Victims of crime, or the families they leave behind, often find themselves struggling to follow the unfamiliar and sometimes intimidating judicial process in their search for justice. Over the course of 20 years service as a prosecutor, I earned the trust and confidence of many victims and their family members as we walked together towards a verdict; more significantly, the bond formed in those times of crisis have turned into friendships which have lasted to this day. As District Attorney, I have worked to continue and enhance these commitments: to our law enforcement community by implementing policies to reduce their paperwork to our office (allowing more time protecting our streets); to our victims by increasing the experience level of the prosecutors handling their cases. But our obligation to justice extends further. Over the last two years, the District Attorney's office has worked to reduce the backlog of older cases it inherited, including some serious felony cases dating back to 2016 and older. Four months after taking office in January 2019, I secured a guilty verdict in a 2015 murder case where the defendant had been awaiting trial in jail for over 1,400 days. Defendants and victims alike deserve timely justice, and as of 2020, we have disposed of approximately two-thirds of these older cases. Similarly, I worked with our judges to undertake the first revision of the county bond policy in 25 years, and am currently working with other courthouse leaders on a program to provide relevant pretrial Mental Health services for non-violent offenders who need them. These efforts will reduce the number of non-violent offenders in our jail, ensuring jail space for violent and repeat offenders. Rules of Professional Conduct states that the prosecutor is a "minister of justice"; as such, my duty is to seek justice, not merely convictions. My work as District Attorney is guided by this principle. Aggressive prosecution of violent crime, efficient case management, and timely revisions of outdated policies are the practical results of this commitment. Going forward, we will continue our work to secure justice for all of Alamance County. Sincerely,
Sean

Furry Friend Friday featuring the sweet, adorable, and ADOPTABLE Nami! This girl has been in foster care for 3 years now, and if any kitty deserves a forever home it is her. Laid back, affectionate, and plays well with others - Nami has it all! She just needs a home to fill with love. Apply today ♥️🐾

Rescued October 2023. Tried out a home in 2024 but returned (see below)

Apply to adopt: Sparklecatrescue.org/adopt

Nami is a very sweet girl who gets along great with her foster kitty friends. She was adopted once but returned due to another kitty picking on her. She is a very chunky girl who is very laid back but does give love nibbles to her humans so probably should not go to a home with small children. She very much seeks out the company of other cats and needs to either be adopted with one of her foster buddies or go to a home with another cat. She is very affectionate and likes attention from her foster family.

Nami’s time in our program and still needing a home is an example of why we are paused for intakes. We need adoptions. Our longtime fosters deserve forever homes. We can’t continue to take in when they don’t find homes. Our resources and space and fosters are limited. We have to take care of the ones we’ve already rescued.

Since March of this year we have greatly had to limit intakes and the last crew we purposely rescued were the Lake crew (12 cats and kittens). Any other kittens/cats that came to the rescue’s program since then showed up at their foster homes, and because the foster agreed to house them we could accept them. When we do accept cats they are primarily through CatsFirst or cats/kittens our fosters rescue through colonies they tend to and find dumped cats. We also have to remain available to take back cats that may be returned. We do not accept cats needing to be rehomed.

For the past few years adoptions have decreased. Even with adoption specials. Even with waived fee. There are simply too many cats because many are not being spay/neutered.

I enjoyed spending time with my friends at the Graham Fire Department for their hot dog lunch fundraiser supporting the United Way today. It's always great seeing Fire Chief Cole and Police Chief Neil (who was diligently working the hot dog prep line!) The event lasts until 1pm, so if you're looking for a lunch plan, come out to the Graham Fire Department! 🇺🇲

I am very glad to have the support of my friend and fellow Western Warrior Rodney Beckom for my re-election as District Attorney. A proud Marine Corps veteran, Rodney served our state for 25 years as a special agent with North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement. A few weeks ago at the elected District Attorney conference, I spoke with two young ALE agents about Rodney, and I could tell that he has the respect and admiration of agents statewide. It is truly gratifying to have the support of someone who built such an esteemed reputation in law enforcement. Thank you sir for your service and support 🙏🇺🇲

With 25 years of public service as a prosecutor, most people are familiar with me, my background, and my qualifications. But many people don't know about the programs started in the last two years to help people impacted by court to lead productive lives. I am proud to have worked with our courthouse partners, legislators, and local bar to bring these programs to Alamance County for the first time. I would ask you to share this graphic with all of your friends so they can see that I not only have a record of fighting for your safety; I am dedicated to helping those who want the chance to lead productive, crime-free lives in our community.

I was at the Alamance County Public Safety Training Center recently and was glad to run into my friend Todd Davis, who served our county with the Sheriff's office for 12 years. Major Davis served as jail administrator, and when I saw him recently he was training detention officers. In addition to giving back by training others, Todd is also VP and Justice sector leader with Moseley Architects in Raleigh, where he works to design jails, courthouses, and training facilities. Thank you sir for your service and your support for my re-election as District Attorney 🙏🇺🇲

I opened my email today to find that my application to become a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution had been approved. Being accepted into the SAR as we celebrate America's 250th birthday is truly exciting for me, and I am looking forward to working to further its purpose:

"The Sons of the American Revolution honors our Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving our communities and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our Country." 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇺🇸

You never know who you're going to run into at early voting, but it was a pleasure to see my friend Scott Stephens at the polls. Scott is a proud Marine Corps veteran, and we worked together when I was an Assistant District Attorney and he was serving with the Sheriff's Office. He was always very professional and a pleasure to work with. I didn't have a chance to speak to him about an endorsement before today, but he was gracious enough to take a picture with me and offer his support. Thank you sir for your service 🙏🇺🇲
